Um, Tyler, my attention spam has been in place for about 12 years longer than yours, and the entire LOTR series sucked, period. Sure, there is some cool fighting scenes and what have you in them (I have sat through all three), but come on ... elves and dwarves and fairytale beings? Didn't Snow White and Peter Pan and Mother Goose already cover that territory?
These movies were good for spending lots of money on effects of course, but as far as calling the series as a legend in it's time I think the first three Star Wars (Episode 4-5-6 for those not paying attention) has successfually spanked that thought out of existence.
Well, TConwell, with all due respect, you are very wrong in my opinion. And I'll tell you why.
The Lord of The Rings series is excellent. Who ever said that movies had to be realistic or plausible? The visuals in the movies are beautiful, and the action scenes are unlike any other film. We've all seen the standard Hollywood battle, ie Gladiator or Braveheart...the action sequences in LOTR are totally different...it's not just a series of half-second camera angles of limbs flying, while the viewer has no idea who is doing what, but they direction of the scenes in LOTR are much more tasteful, because they are not the centerpieces of the films. The real greatness comes from the in between scenes, because the story is just so great. The events that these characters are involved in are sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and always entertaining and inciteful. It's not the battles that make these films great, but the way the stories are told and how we experience all of the different events of the characters. These films are also particularly beautiful...the grand vistas that are portrayed are just wonderful.
The acting and script are both better than in the original Star Wars movies, yet I still find the Star Wars films more entertaining.
And it should be a given that The Return of the King was too long, and did get a bit boring and sappy near the end...
No offense to anybody, but just a topic for debate....
And for movies I don't like...
Rush Hour 2....and I thought the first one was bad
If I can think of some more I'll be sure to post them...
