I've seen it when it rolls back before, I think it would be so much better if it rolled back the first time on purpose, then went to the lauch pad and launched properly with enough speed to go over the top, but then that would decrease the capacity of the ride, so maybe its not all that good of an idea

Yeah, i saw it happen at CP when i went, not to big of a deal tho...seems to happen alot more than you think.

Ya, but it seems to happen less when there are people on it. When I went for 5 days, I saw many, countless amount of roll backs without passangers, and only two runs with passengers. I saw one train go over the hill at 124, I think even 125 mph. It was quite foggy, rainy and humid that day though. Wasnt very warm either, low 60's (not warm for mid-summer at least).

i always notice on rollback video's that EVERYONE is shouting, etc...

I think it would be the best ride ever if you get a rollback!

It IS the best ride ever, ask anyone whos gotten one. I, have been shafted like 4 times having the train either behind me or in front of me get a rollback, but I dont.

I would venter to say Ive seen over 100 rollbacks though. The first fall season was nuts. I Was there on "the day" where it rolled back some 25+ times. I witnessed a good 13 of them. One train got THREE rollbacks, plus the shot all the way over. Talk about getting your waiting times worth!

I was on a roll back back in late July. I had rode it twice the day before, and on our second day, we had been in line about 30 minutes and then they had technical problems. It was shut down for about 1 hour and then they started doing test runs again. The first two trains rolled back, but then after a few more, everything was back to normal. I had said how cool it would be to be on a rol back because not only do you get to do it backwards, but you get to be on a double launch. We were about the 20th train after they started letting people back on. We launched, and I didn't think anything of it when we paused momentarily, then i realized we were rolling back. It was so cool, going down, backwards that far. I have been on three woodies that were set backwards for a limited time, and none of them even come close to what that felt like.

it must be sooo cool having a roll back, but then do you think Kingda Ka will have as many roll backs at TTD?

no, they will launch it a little faster and slow it down with the trim brake on the top. maybe are the rollbacks taken down by half. so if ttd did make 100 rollbacks then kingda ka maybe 50 or less...

one thing though, why do coasters have trim brakes on the first drop. i seen a pic of mantis at cedar point and there is a trim brake on the very first drop. But i understand why there are Mid-Course Ride Brakes are for. Whats the point on the drop though?

Im sorry, but I hope you are joking.

Trims are only ever installed for a few reasons:

Steel coasters - to cut down on G forces exerted on riders. Mantis had complaints of people getting rubber legs, strains and people pulling muscles. I dont find the forces to be a problem on my legs on mantis, just the lateral shakiness which causes a ton of headbanging for me. Most steel rides with trims, the purpose is to reduce the force on the riders.

Wooden coasters - the USUAL reason (aside from the reason above) for woodies to get trims is because wooden coasters do alot of damage to their own track. Obviously, the more speed and force a wooden train dishes out, the more wear and tear on the wood. Examples of this are found on RAttler and Mean Streak which are trimmed to death so they last longer and theres less repair to do.

yay, no i know what they do. I sort of knew what they were for on steel coasters, but had no idea that there were loads on woodies. Didnt know it would wear away the track.

a rollback is when the train makes it all the way over the tophat.

and real i wasnt joking: "Riders will be launched hydraulically in a horizontal position at 128 mph and then climb the tower straight up. Brakes at the top will slow riders, "so it gives you time to look around,"

as first, a rollback is when the train CAN'T make the top. so it actually Roll's backwards.
and as second, they slow you down at the top so you don't get too extreme g's at the top in the last car, but you hardly will notice it that you slow down...[:)]

lol, dirk i knew what a rollback was i was just being an ass.

but on the topic of TTD i know i should know this, but i dont, what happens to the cable when the car reaches top speed, just it just stop at the end of the launch track instantly, or what?

First off, you didnt know, or you wouldnt of asked, and if you knew and you wanted to be an ass, dont waste members or your own time. Ya it stops pretty sudden, look at the hydrolic house on TTD, Thats where the power of the catapult is "driven". Because there are no G' force limits (ok within reasonable limits DUH), for the catapult, because there is no train still attacthed to it, so it can stop REAL fast. I have never seen it stop in action, but thats because it goes into the hydraluic house.

Actually it doesn't go into the house. The catch car stops, waits for the train to pass, then returns.
