Tree Top Challenge... The concept?

For this contest I have decided to raise the difficulty level for those users who like to build big. The basic concept here is you are not aloud to build track above the highest tree in the NL editor. Your coaster should hug the ground, but yet provided a fun filled layout, full of tight turns ejector hills and other unique surprises. The idea is similar to that of Nemesis of Alton Towers, possibly one of the best themed rides for its location. You will be able to use the whole map how you like, but bare in mind that extra marks will be awarded for the track - terrain interactions.

Tree Top Challenge - the story

The Tussauds group are looking for a follow-on hit to the 1994, smash hit, coaster Nemesis at Alton Towers. As appointed by the Tussauds group, It is your job to re-create a coaster that is unique and hugs the terrain in a way so It cannot be seen clearly above tree height. The Tussauds group are looking for something different but yet the same as Nemesis in the way to coaster flows with the land, the interactions between beauty and beast is a key concept here. The track should be hidden as much as possible as not to give away what lies in wait throughout the ride. The trenches and hills on this map make a perfect causeway for high speed sprints through the terrains and high speed corners, just inches away from the tree line. However in the best interest of mother nature the Tussauds group see it best if a maximum of only 8 trees are to be removed. Other than that the map is yours for the taking.

Questions & Answers

If you have any questions you can post them in this topic. I will try to answer your question A.S.A.P. Your question and the answer will be posted under this header.

Q: You say that 8 trees can be removed, but can we move trees or add them?
A: You can add as many trees as you see fit

Q: Can a wooden coaster have lims?
A: All coasters are allowed as many LIMs as you wish

Q: What if you accidentally select a tree and it moves like, less than a billionth of a foot, would that count as moving trees?
A: Moving one or two trees by a couple of feet is OK, but you will be penalised for moving a vast amount of noticable trees

Q: Can I move the starting vertex?
A: You can move the vertex to whereever you please

Q: Can supports, not track, be above the treeline by about 3 feet?
A: No, all construction should be placed under the tallest tree

Q: Is there a speed limit?
A: There is no speed limit

Q: When you say points deducted for track over 90ft, do you mean 90ft PERIOD, or 90ft over the terrain that track is over?
A: This means track that is over 90ft from the terrian directly below the track. If you are building on terrian at a hieght of 10ft you can build up to 100ft overall at that point. However bare in mind that no track can go over the tallest tree height!

Q: Also, if we use the 1-bench trains, how many cars? 12? / 7 is ridiculously long & heavy for 2 bench PTC
A: 12 Cars is the maximum size for a 1-bench train. You train can be any amount of cars under the maximum size.

Q: Are launches allowed?
A: Yes launches and lifts are both allowed

Q: I will give this contest a try. It will be my first contest. If I move the water level up, does it count as "modifying the terrain"?
A: Yes, the terrian should not be altered in any way

Q: Can we modify the terrain and add water and stuff? I also plan on tunneling (either by converting the terrain to 3ds or simply letting the train crash into the ground, using a black plane 3ds object to cover it up.)
A: You may not edit the terrian in any way. Tunneling is restricted to two tunnels per track

Q: Am I limited to submitting 1 track?
A: No, feel free to send in as many tracks as you wish. However the ratings for your tracks will be averaged out. So if you submit a poor track and a superb track, you will overall have an average rate

Q: Can we have more than one lift/lim?
A: Yes you can have a maximum of 2 lifts/lims per track. Dueling coaster can have 4 total

Q: Can we have more than 3 trains?
A: As long as the trains dont stack on the brake runs then yes. If trains do stack on brake runs points will be lost (By stacking i mean trains waiting to go into the station. As a train hits the final brake the train in the station should be dispatched immediatly or should already be on the circuit.

Coaster99, just save the track you have so far as an element, remember where the first vertex is, and then redownload the template and insert the track as an element after placing the first vertex in its appropriate place.

Put me in
Your coaster should interact with the terrian and points will be lost where the track is over 27m / 90ft

is this above the ground or above what the editor says the hight is?

Can I move the starting vertex?
Can supports, not track, be above the treeline by about 3 feet?
Is there a speed limit?

Please clarify between:
# All track must be under the tallest tree height (32.6m / 107ft)
# Your coaster should interact with the terrian and points will be lost where the track is over 27m / 90ft

I'm in!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was just starting another terrain woody, after making shadow rider, so i thought, well i might as well try this comp, especially cos you can make woodies, although this may sound silly, as most of you know me as a woody designer, i think i might try my hand at a small hyper!!!! Or a woody, ahhhhhhhhhh, i dont know. Thanks for the comp tho edge. And just to clarify this, i want to enter this contest. [lol] I wonder where TJ is, im sure he will like this contest???? We got a woody contest at last! Yay.

I will give this contest a try. It will be my first contest. If I move the water level up, does it count as "modifying the terrain"?
