2005 WWS/CC.COM Match-up Contest

It's that time of year again... time for the annual NoLimits Tournament. As in the past, all registrants will be randomly paired with 1 or 2 other designers, and they will face off in a head-to-head coaster building battle. The winners from each round are then paired again, and face off against one of the other winners. The last designer standing is the winner. The template and coaster type will be different for each round. The template and rules for the first round will be announced at the end of registration.

TIMELINE:
Registration: 4/2 - 4/9

Round 1: 4/10 - 4/20
results posted: 4/23

Round 2: 4/24 - 5/4
results posted: 5/7

Round 3: 5/8 - 5/18
results posted: 5/21

Round 4: 5/22 - 6/1
results posted: 6/4

Each building round will last 10 days. The new template will be posted on Sunday, and the round will end at midnight the following Wednesday. Then, there will be a 3 day period for me to judge the coasters. Finally, the pairings and new template will be posted and the next round will begin.

So, get your coaster building skills ready and sign up for the annual Match-up contest. Registration will close at midnight EST on Saturday, April 9. The first round begins next Sunday, April 10.

Questions & Answers

If you have any questions you can post them in this topic. I will try to answer your question A.S.A.P. Your question and the answer will be posted under this header.

Q: Can I use NL tools to make the track?
A: Yes. All tools are allowed. Coasters will mostly be judged on pacing and originality, so tools will not be a big deal.

Q: Can I submit a track ahead of the deadline?
A: Yes. You can submit tracks any time between the start and end dates of each round.

Q: Can I submit more than one version of a track?
A: Yes. As long as it is sent through e-mail, you can re-submit as often as you like. If you post on the exchange, however, only one submission is allowed.

Sorry, I come back 16th at like 8pm. That leaves me 3 days and 4 nights, lol.

While Ive done a ride in that time, I at least knew what I had to do.

I'm in, is thier going to be a monthly contest now? Cuz that would be cool. I like this contest specifically because people start to lose it after the second event, and stuff. Last year turned out some great rides. I think the biggest was probably Bockzilla's Out & back coaster, that was probably my favorite.

This year, there will be no tight fit coaster, which is usaully where we lose everyone. The templates and coaster types will result in serious competition and great coasters every single round. This time, the best designer will win, not the only one to submit a track.

Count me in, i need to go practice my coaster building skills again.

There should also be a penalty for entrants who enter and do not submit a track [lol] You enter a contest to make a track, not it around until the last day and decide your not going to submit

Im confident in my abilities against most opponents (Buster excluded...lol) but if I win, that means I go to the second round, which, I will only be at my computer for 3 days. NOT enough, even against a mediocre opponent.

I dont hand in trashy work. (3days = trashy)

Just a suggestion. Perhaps the compeition should be seeded? Determine the seed, by, say, the average rating on the persons last 3 uploads, or something. In the first round, seed 1, matches up against seed 16, etc. The idea being that the really close parings happen later, when there is more on the line.

Crap, can we pleeeeeeease change the first round dates? I am leaving the 17th, unless I can submit the track early, that would work.

I guess I will try if I can sumbit it earlier than the 20th, however I am not to excited with the idea of facing a person who uses all tools, when I hand-build. I think tools should be not allowed for this contest, even though you will probably allow them...

I know I wouldnt enter then. I cant handbuild for crap anymore. Especially with time constraints.

At least youd have 7 days...Id get 3 with the current date setup.

This again is something to would worry me. It really is not fair to go up against someone who is going to use tools. Thats the reason i judge the Tree Top Challenge tracks mainly of Creativity. The show what the user could actualy do with there mind, not the limits of the sim itself

And thats why Im a strong advocate FOR tools. Tools, as said a bajillion times, only make GOOD rides better.

And on top of that, if the rides layout still sucks or is crappy, its just smooth, but crappy. Tools dont do anything more than polish what youve already done.
