Somehow, I must've missed the part where the rules got changed from a Head-to-head contest to a "top 16 scores" contest. I was going along these last few days expecting to come in and download the next round today... after all, I was up against a coaster that scored a 3 and another that scored a 0.5!

If I had realized that I was competing against everyone else, I imagine that my first round entry would've looked a LOT different. As it was, I went ahead and completed a lot of work I needed to do so I would have some more free time in the days ahead... at least for round two.

At the very least, you could've CHANGED THE NAME OF THE CONTEST. How can you still call it a head-to-head battle when it's clearly a best-of-field contest now?

The head-to-head matchups were a lot more interesting, and gave hope to those of us who don't have several hours a day to tweak a track that we might at least go a round or two.

Sucks for me.

OK, I finally found the official proclamation that the rules changed.... buried deep on page 12 of a 24 page thread. You'd think that a change that affects the entire contest would warrant its OWN THREAD at least? And I'm not just talking about a poll thread. A poll is just a poll. Until a consequence happens from the result, anyway.

Sorry if I seem a bit bitter, but I really jumped thru hoops to free up some time for the NEXT round, because I was in a bracket with Zing and Cliff Diver. I wasn't expecting to need a coaster better than the one I turned in.

I had talked about the potential change in rules almost the entire contest through. And there is a separate topic... the poll. If you look right below the round 1 post, there is a post called "Match-up contest: new system or old system?", where I clearly state that there was a potential change in rules. I clearly stated several times that it was the top 16, and you should have been paying attention. This is why you need to read the forums more often.

Whatever. I don't have time to keep up with every thread on the forums, nor will I in the forseeable future.

Hopefully, future contests won't continually change the rules in between the time that the contest is announced and the deadline for the entries.

If you want to radically alter the rules, do so BEFORE you open the contest. Once the opening post is done and rules are set forth, that should be that. At the VERY LEAST, going back and editing the original post to reflect the rule changes would prevent confusion.

Having to read other threads, or read 12 pages down in the main thread to get such a big change is simply bad form. This site usually has much more class than that. I'm surprised.

I feel that the change of rules was necsasarry. It brought the bracket to an even 16 competitors and sped up things a little bit.

I am so PO'd right now, really wish I could of finished my entry up. Everytime there is a contest, there is always some major interference.

I think you have a good point, and I do agree that rules should not be changed after the original ones are set. However, this wasn't a rule change, the contest rules remained exactly the same.

I think that in a contest every participant should put 100% effort into their entry - NOT just put enough work into it to beat their opponent(s). So in that case, it really doesn't matter if your opponents changed at all....your contest entry should still be the same.

well taht's true.
but you must admit that if you got for example mcfly as an opponent you sure try to make a better track as if you have a person that nobody ever heard about.

This wasn't even my decision... I offered the change due to complaints about the fairness of the contest pairings, and you all democratically voted to change the rules.

Ha, like McFly is a challenge at all!

Either way though, I would still make the best coaster I can. I hate submitting tracks that aren't my best work, which is why I haven't uploaded a coaster in over a year. I'm too much of a perfectionist, which sucks most of the time.

All of these complaints are really making me doubt my contest hosting abilities... doesn't anyone think that I'm doing something positive? I've heard nothing but complaints for two days straight.

I think the rule that the top 16 moving to the next round is good.
and I think going after coasters that will be opened this year is also an awesome idea.

nope. It wouldn't be the match-up contest without the match ups. The only reason that the first round was changed is because there were uneven pairings.

Don't worry CJD, you're doing an awesome job. I think it is completly fair. Everyone is just uptight because they have other things going on and can't put forth their full effort for the contest. Those people will be out of it soon enough anyway so we souldn't have to hear them whine any longer. ;)

In Round 2, it actually pays to sumbit your tracks even if they aren't finished. There is always a chance that your opponent won't submit a track.
