To those using the AHG with proficiency --

I have an issue that really needs some expertise. I have completed all of my trackwork on a coaster, but the AHG seems to be way out of whack. Now, I know all about color coding the segments so that certain parts do not get heartlined (whether using 0 or 1 for the heartline settings (0 to just bank)) - but right now I am merely working on banking. OK, here is my issue.

This is a loop when I start (notice the colors properly set and all):

Now, when the AHG does it's thing:

The end result is, shall we say, warped - and magically some colors change all by themselves:

Help???

Did you have relative roll enabled before running it through? Because AHG won't read rel roll. If you do, just remove the rel roll from all segments of the loop, leave it unbanked even though it will look strange, then run it through again.

So, after taking that REL ROLL off and running it through, do I then put it back in? When I put it back on -- it is not returning to the original values it had prior to going in ... so again it looks dorked up.

No, you don't need to put it back on. Rel Roll isn't really needed after running your track through the AHG (maybe in SOME situations), but since the track is "rebuilt" with the AHG, there is no need for it.

Hmmm, then the loops do not work properly and come out just as warped as they were before hand.

Before with REL ROLL removed:

After AHG is run:

After turning rel roll off, turn the color of the track to white. Just ran a loop through the AHG and it works perfectly.

EDIT - I just found out that removing the rel roll doesn't do a thing. It doesn't matter if it's off or on, you get the same result. So the only problem was that your loop was black instead of white. More of a simple problem than I thought.

Oh ok -- so, turn off REL ROLL, make it white so it WILL heartline, and then run it through. Sounds easy enough.

Something I've noticed on using AHG on inversions...you sometimes have to bump up the speed settings so that the track doesn't come out all wonky like your pics show. My guess for why it does this is that AHG will move the track around to prevent negative g forces. I could be wrong about that though, but bumping up the speed settings seems to work for me.

Just two cents from a fellow AHG newbie.

If there are negative gs in the loop, then the AHG will flip it around like TConwell's...your correct about that.

The only thing about this though is that i've ran a few loops in AHG that didn't show negative gs in the sim, using the correct speed settings, and the loops still come out wrong. I ended up having to raise the AHG speed settings considerably higher than what is shown in the sim to get them to come out right...Does AHG consider negative g forces to be anything below 0g or 1g?

AHG considers forces being negative when they are -guess what- negative.

Usually, there shouldn't be any problems with loops and inversions. I usuallly use colorcoding only for hills (so they don't flip). However, if your loop is pulling close to zero G at the top it might distort it for a very simple reason:
Let's say your heartlinepoint is 1m above the track. This means that the new loop would be 2m higher than in the original track. Those 2 meters could very well cause negative forces now and AHG will "correct" the problem by flipping it.
Another problem is that AHG doesn't do well reading bank (relroll or no relroll) on near vertical track, especially on loops. So if you experience this flipping with the right speed setting and you need to colorcode the loop, just colorcode only the top of it, not the whole loop. So at the top you would put 180????????? bank (no relroll!) and mark that part black. No more problems.

Buster.

Also someone pointed out to me that you are using the old Version. Get the latest one here: http://nldc.interfix.net/pageid-6.html

Also, I see in your screenshot a heartline of 0.00. I wonder why you need AHG then anyways, especially when you mark the track black.

Finally you are using the default speedsetting in that shot; are you sure it fits your track?

If you are just using AHG to get even segments (something that can help, no doubt) I suggest using very high speeds (100/100). you can be sure it will run through the whole track then...
Buster.

I know you tried reinstalling it and it didn't fix the problem, but did you try installing the newer version? (download here)
