We all got up and drove up to Alton Towers, we got there early to beat the queues. We knew it was going to rain, so we brought an umbrella just in case. so waiting for the gates to open, it starts pouring down, no big deal. 9:30 gates open, so we run (in dad's case, he limped :p) over to rita to get inline, the ride starts testing at 9:45, three launches and the queue line opens. we start queueing and one ride gets launched, looks fun. then it starts having technical difficulties, 1 hour 20 minutes later, RITA GETS CLOSED DOWN!! so theres 1 hour 30 we lost. also corkscrew was having problems but opened later but the black hole was down all day. so we go over to oblivion and have a quick go on that. over to to nemesis and air. we queue for 40 mins and get on nemesis and then go over to air. 50 minute queue or so they say, not too bad, it ends up that we were waiting for 1 hour 20 mins, because of more 'technical difficulties' so we eventually get on, ride it and then it breaks down with us on the ride. so here we are stuck on the brake run in the 'flying posiition' 30 mins later we find that they dont know when it will be fixed. so we get evacuated from the ride and were given priority passes all day....WOO! so off to ride nemesis again before lunch, and joy of joys, NEMESIS BREAKS DOWN. off to merrie england for lunch, we go to the BBQ place and order 2 beef baguettes, NO BEEF! after luch, we get on spinball whizzer, enterprise, submission, oblivion, rita, spinball again, rita then denied us, then nemesis and air again, before going on nemesis for the last ride of the day.

my thoughts TEST THE RIDE BEFORE YOU OPEN THEM!!!!! 3 ISN'T ENOUGH!!!

EDIT: while stuck on air it rained and hailed [:D]

it seems theres a new Alton Towers trip report on here every day at the moment [lol]. Its sounds like you had a bit of an unlucky day to be honest, having said that any day which involves you riding Nemesis is a good day [;)]

Yes, sorry you had such a bad day at the park...

Rita is a ride which really doesn't like bad weather, the trains slip on the friction wheels and other things issues. Corkscrew is an old ride and unfortunately was having lift chain problems on Saturday.

As you kurtis mentioned above, last year was Black Holes last operating year. Again, Air is a prototype ride and still decides to be awqward quite often as you happened to notice [:)]. It's always difficult to make the decision of whether to evacuate or wait on Air. I don't know what was happening over on Nemesis but it was fixed pretty sharpish.

As for ride testing, 3 times is usually enough on Rita - once with each train and then usually another time with a senior ride team leader onboard.

Anyway, hope you still managed to have an OK day at the park, making the most of it. You certainly got on plenty rides for a Saturday.

Well Whenever we go to Alton Towers we usually end up in the pub! Best thing there and that NEVER breaks down!! [lol]

Yeah Rita is nuts. Last time I rode Air a fly shot into my eye as we going round a helix. Spoiled it for me a bit.

I've never understood why people do that myself. You walk past the pubs in "Merrie England" or whatever its called and theres loads of people in there and you'm just thinking "why? Actually why? You can go to a pub anywhere and at anytime, why do it now when Nemesis is just over there? >>>"
Ahwell, I guess you can enjoy a day at Alton Towers in whatever way you want, I would prefer to ride the rides myself though.

Man -- that is just terrible. Perhaps you ought to not go to the park so far in the future next time and stick to the current dimension?

(Title of this thread: Alton Towers, 07/05/2005, WORST DAY EVER!)

[lol]

But seriously, that bytes man.

?

Mr Conwell is forgetting Alton Towers is not in America and the date in the UK would have been 07/05/2005. The date today in the UK is 12/05/2005 Day/Month/Year [;)] Which seems to make more sense than having month/day/year. At least we order everything right in the UK [lol]

[lol] the man has a point, well of course he has a point, he's a man ...... unless he'd had a certain operation, in which case he no longer has a point.

Still though, going back to the topic at hand. I doubt very much that it was infact, the "worst day ever" as you describe it. I mean come on, its not like you had hundreds of wasps sting you in the eye before falling down a massive hole onto a huge spike subsequently causing you to feel the worst pain that has ever been felt by anyone, followed by the news that both of your parents have died in a terrible accident involving three types of cheese and a small shelf bracket now is it? ....... was that a bit of a longish question?, well yeah whatever, but you know, you can see my point. I'm sure I'd rather spend a day in Alton Towers and have a few rides brake down than have all that crap happen to me!

Try Ridin Nemmy after a couple of beers. It adds a whole new dimension to it!! [lol]

I'll sadly miss the Black Hole.. It's had its day sure, but Corkscrew was built in 1979 and it's still going.. Oh well at least we've still got X NO WAY OUT at Thorpe.. Dark and Backwards!! Hope Alton Towers replace BH with something better..
