lift hills are fun, but i'm starting to get used to them.. not much thrill anymore, so i have to say launch.

Launces are on exact shedules. On Xpress a.k.a. superman the ride @ walibi world. It always goes into tunnel, wait a few sec, move a bit backweards, Stop again, wait one sec, and ur off [:)] Same as other rides. They always go @ one point. You just have to find out when it's going. On those race themed rides you also can see it by watching the lights going on green [;)]

He said "at times". I have been on a couple coasters where there is no set time that it launches. Sometimes the ride ops fool you to to make it more exciting.

I'm a sucker for traditional lifts. I like the anticipation, especially on hyper/giga coasters. On TTD, you really don't get a true feeling of height because it gets up there too fast for your mind to get nervous. I love the kamikaze feel of creeping uphill and then plummeting back to earth face first whilst getting thrown out of your seat. I just love big, steep, straight drops with lots of airtime.

^ True, but there are several factors still:

1) The park needs the right terrain.
2) The park has to want that type of coaster.
3) The track length could still add up a lot to the price.
4) Lift speed?

Right, i'm gonna go with all the other brits in this forum and go:

LAUNCH LAUNCH LAUNCH

It is new after all. But it really depends on the ride. The best starting experience i've had is Goliath at SFH, cos you leave the station quite quickly and then speed up about halfway up, and there's hardly any time to admire anything. I think its the first time i've ever experienced air at the top of the lift mid carriage.

I haven't been on many coasters, but I like the lift most. The tensions builds, and gives you time to think "why am I doing this?. It's a really traditional feel. I have yet to ride a launched coaster, but I might be able to get a ride on Rockn Rollercoaster and Hulk

I never get that "scared" feeling on a lift hill. After riding only 15 or so coasters I wasn't scared at all to go on any coaster. You all still get scared when getting on a coaster?

I ditto that. The only thing I get is "nervous" for not knowing what kind of forces it may produce. Even on a ride thats billed as weak, I still am not sure. I usually ride front seat on any new ride first if I can, then ride back. That way I get 2 very different rides right off the get go.

I don't get really scared on lifts, usually when i go on a lift then i'm more getting exited. Like, woohoo! This looks fun. But that is only when i ride the coaster for the first few times. The only time i got pretty scared was on a skycoaster [:D] When i was lying down and then slowly gettting tilted up in the air i got scared and exiting. But ended up AWESOME. [:)]

Lifts are boring, so I prefer the launch.

If it is a wooden coaster, that's a different story. The lifts on there often make it sound like the ride is going to fall apart. (or an antirollback cracking apart [:)] )

I like lifts on wooden coasters because they provide thrill for the rest of the coaster (ie. going under lift supports), and because they look better.

Boulder Dash has a pretty steep lift going up the mountain at Lake Compounce.

I don't know the lift hil is what I like the best. The anticipation on going up the hill, then looking down the enormous hill that you are about to decend on. Thats why I voted for lift hill. Because the MF is the best lift hill coaster.

Tusenfryd is basicly built on a hillside. And I'm sure you could find a lot of other parks with some great terrain. But if the lift was build on a mountain you wouldn't kind of lose the whole point by building a strata coaster. This remind me about LiseBerg Banan. It's actually 150feet high, but it never go far above the ground. Amazing ride.

I realy like the anticipation you get on the lift. Having a good view of the coaster is a great feeling.
