As many of you may know, there was a malfunction on TTD yesterday. from what park employees say it sounds like it wont be fixed for a while. i read somewhere else that there suppose to be getting a part from intamin in a couple of days. from the time it takes to ship across seas, this may take a while.
but i went to CP today and i noticed a mechanic working on the track directly over where u enter the ride. then a couple hours later i saw 3 mechanics working on the same piece of track. does anyone know if this is where the malfunction occured? and if no, where?

You just said that they will be getting a part from Intamin in a couple days. So why tell us itll be awhile because of overseas if its going to be here in a couple days?!

Who knows, maybe whatever happened to KK is spurring CP to fix whatever problem it was.

Why would they ship it over sea if they can just make it in a custom shop 2 hours away from CP?

Edit: Then again, it depends on what part it needs.

well idk i read at www.pointbuzz.com thatpa the part would come from over seas cuz there was NOT an intamin manufactur in the states. but idk perhaps ther are wrong.

and real i didnt mean it that way... i meant it might take CP a lil time to install that part. besides right when ttd opens up again theres a good chance the ride is gonna keep breaking down.

Strange, because of the 4 times I was there this year only once was it down for an extended period of time and that wasnt mechanical - was high winds.

I highly doubt it'll keep breaking down as much as in the past. When you look at the record it had the first year, last year it ran awesome in comparison. After every major bug fix its only gotten more reliable.

However, reliable for the 2 large rocket coasters isnt the same reliable we are used too. Some people just forget all of the mechanics behind these crazy rides.

Well you got me there real. I guess your right about the reliability. I guess they mostly have it closed because of thunderstorms / wind. And the mechanics for the rockets are awesome. I mean you can see TTD be closed one hour then it be open the next. And the guts it takes to go to the top of those towers. I have much respect for them.

But about those three mechanics i saw workin on the track yesterday. What do you think they were up to if they didnt even have the part yet??? perhaps they were checking the cable?

No clue. My sister was there yesterday and saw no workers but she said it was also very windy and down all day because of the wind - which I believe because here in my hometown (1 hour west - Toledo) it was very windy. Its only ever worse because its out on the penninsula and on Lake Erie which is a very unpredictable lake.

My guess is that they were using the downtime from the weather to inspect and do some maintenance on the track. Perhaps they also are looking into replacing a few parts and they were preparing for that?

My guess is just simply doing work while the conditions didnt let the ride run. There could be more, however I wouldnt jump to conclusions untill I see the ride down for days at a time.

Anyways, They have reportedly replaced an entire cable and had it running from park closing to mid-day the next day if they work through the night so its possible to get these things done in very short order (and re-stringing that cable CANT be easy)

EDIT - In light of what I just read about KK's liner coming loose, I would almost lay money down that the engineers were using the downtime from the weather to make sure that Dragsters liner and all components reguarding the catch car were in correct working order. I dont think well see Dragster have any real downtime unless they plan on replacing the parts as a precaution.

That makes perfect sense. I guess CP doesnt want the same thing to occur on TTD. If only CP could get that shipment from intamin soon so TTD can open back up for the sunshine coming this weekend.

Park News - (6/16/05) I've heard that Dragster actually went down for technical problems on Monday afternoon on it's own and this is not related to the Kingda Ka problem, however they will likely make a modification to ensure that the problem can not happen on their ride as well while it's down.

best guess at this point is that the fins got all screwed up, b/c of an e-stop half way down the track, which was caused by the switch track malfunctioning...
