2005 WWS/CC.COM Match-up Contest (FINALS)

It is time... time for the final round of the 2005 NoLimits Match-up Contest. And what better coaster type for these 4 amazing designers to work with than the Intamin Rocket? Will you choose to re-design RITA or Kingda Ka? The choice is yours. Whatever emerges, I can gurantee that it will be fast, intense, and furious. Good luck to the 4 finalists. A coveted platinum medal and 10,000 slappin' points are on the line, so here's hoping that we see some amazing tracks.

PRIZES:

1st place: Platinum medal, 10,000 pts
2nd place: 3000 pts
3rd place: 1000 pts
4th place: 500 pts

THE RULES:

You have 2 options here, so be sure to choose wisely. Everyone has seen KK and TTD, (and probably complained about their lack of originality). Think you can do better? Than use Templates 1 and 2 to create a 400 ft+ coaster that brings in the thrills without being uneconomical. And how about RITA? This coaster has proved that bigger is not always better. So how about thrilling the world with another mini-rocket, keeping it under 100 ft and 4000 ft long in Template 1? The choice is yours. The preliminary judging factor for this round will be originality. However, as always, bonus points are available for good work.

General Rules:
  • Track Style must be "Hyper Coaster (2-seat)"
  • The coaster must contain exactly one launch. No lifts are allowed.
  • The station must be contained completely within the area marked with an "x"
  • The terrain can be lowered any amount for track tunnels and trenches, but otherwise can only be raised or lowered 20 feet (6 meters)
  • Extra points are available for 3ds, good supports, and inventive track layouts
  • All tracks must be submitted by 11:59:59pm EST Wednesday, July 6
  • Send finished tracks to cjd@muskingum.edu or post them on the exchange and post a link in this topic
  • Once a design is posted on the exchange, it is accepted as your final design. If you send a track through e-mail, you may re-submit as often as you like.

  • Building Option 1: (RITA)
  • All track and supports must be completely contained within area 1 of the template (see above picture)
  • The track height must be less than 100 feet (30 meters)
  • The total length of the track must be less than 4000 feet (1219 meters)
  • The top speed of the coaster must be between 60 mph and 80 mph (between 96 kph and 130 kph)

  • Building Option 2: (KK & TTD)
  • All track and supports must be completely contained within areas 1 and 2 of the template
  • The track height must be greater than 400 feet (122 meters)
  • The total length of the track must be less than 7000 feet (2133 meters)
  • There must be at least one drop with an angle of descent of at least 90 degrees
  • Extra bonus points for original sequencing

Questions & Answers

If you have any questions you can post them in this topic. I will try to answer your question A.S.A.P. Your question and the answer will be posted under this header.

Q: Can I use NL tools to make the track?
A: Yes. All tools are allowed.

Q: Can I submit a track ahead of the deadline?
A: Yes. You can submit tracks any time between the start and end dates of each round.

Q: Can I submit more than one version of a track?
A: Yes. As long as it is sent through e-mail, you can re-submit as often as you like. If you post on the exchange, however, only one submission is allowed.

Q: Can I get help constructing my coaster?
A: No. This must be completely your work.

Q: How many and how long of trains can we use?
A: There are no restrictions in this round.

Q: Can our coasters have inversions?
A: Yes.

Good question, although I think the point is to make a design with similar qualities of the coasters he listed above, which don't have inversions, that's just a guess though.

well the theme for this match up is new coasters opening in the US, so if we go by those rules, you dont include inversions, but if the theme is coasters opening in 2005, then inversions would be allowed.

well the theme for this match up is new coasters opening in the US

Rita isnt in the US but they are using that. So why not kanonen???? By the way to any contestants, it looks like it would be better to make it in template 1. Template 2 would be pretty hard to make original and realistic.

I did read the whole post. I was basically saying that it isnt based on just US coasters as Rita is included. Sorry if i didnt make that quite clear!

Does "the station" refer to just the brown segment itself, or to the entire building as viewed in-sim?

tyler, if you hold yourself on the viewing from the sim then you won't have a problem.

Now i'd wonder, what type is everyone doing? the TTD/KK version or a RITA/KANONEN?

i'm just going now a ttd/kk version. I've had some really original idea's for a huge rocket coaster. mine reaches now 201km/u and nearly 150meters in the air. And i didn't even talked about the manouvres, it's has and going to make [;)]

I think not, they look close like the ones on Kotbullar and those were also not handmade. Am I right Buster?

anyway i'm done with the track and lucky for real it'S build with elemenatyr and the AHG.[8D]
I've raised the whole terrain for ten meters to allow tunnels.
I hope we are still allowed to do this in round 4. Are we cjd?

and could you maybe just look over the screenshots and tell me if it's fine right now.

http://nldc.interfix.net/p673

maybe some info: the ground under that trench is lowered by 8 meters but the floor out of 3ds is only 4 meters under the normal terrain height
hope for a quick answer.

Well, if the rule for the gound changed, I'm doomed. I just raised the complete ground to 6 meters and then used the +-6 meters to build the hills and dips. So, I hope it's still the same as before and we both are ok.

As for the supports: Let's say they are handtweaked...

Buster.

I think they are still the sameif not you could not lower the terrain for tunnels and/or trenches like it is said in the rules.

And I have to say extremely well done track you have Buster as good as always[;)].And I hope my explanation helps to stop people complaining about tree hits on your track.

Well, my comment didn't help, so let's see if two comments do better. LOL
