Erm -- www.dictionary.com or spellcheck and not too mention punctuation ... such wonderful tools.

Anyway, it was a decent movie - we saw it last night and it was not bad. However, there was no movie in the 50s called "War of the Worlds" -- what your Dad is most likely referring to is the radio program narrated by Orsen Wells which actually caused much paranoia and actually scared the public because the way the "story" broke in and out of real radio programs made it appear like it was an actual news announcement.

Ah, those were such simpler times. [lol]

It had a good story but it had no logic to it what-so-ever. Your telling that those ships were there for millons of years and not one was dug up or found? BS.

And where did the aliens come from, they don't live in the ozone. They must of come from a ship in space. But why didn't it do anything when the ground ships were going down. Oh, and how come when the arms came down to pick up the people to put them in the baskets, the shield did'nt do anything? I spotted a goof too, the dude's camara works, even though the EMP came before the ship rose up.

I know, I'm analyzing it too much. I loved the movie, really. Just it didn't make sense. And what was with the vains?

EDIT: Also, not once did they mention Canada, everyone should have gone to the north pole. And when the ship first came out of the ground, why did they all just stand there like idiots,I would be running my a** off the second the SUV flew out of the ground.

The only really good parts were Morgan Freeman doing the narration.
I still liked the movie though. 7.5/10 for not explaining it good enough.

EDIT2: And I swear that the aliens and the alien video camara going into the basment are copy-cats from other movies, but I can't remember.

Did anyone else think they looked like the aliens in "Independance Day" (with Will Smith)??

Yes TJ I agree I don't think there was any point including the "aliens" out of their machines, HG Wells an Englishman, wrote his story around 1920, (he died in 1944), and he set the book before his own time, in England at the end of the 19th century. The martians, (Large, rounded bulk like creatures with luminous, disk like eyes and tentacles), arrived in huge cylinder like capsules and constructed 2 different types of travelling machine according to their needs. The latest movie kind of combined those into 1 machine. It was a good rework of the book to bring the story up to todays standards, but I really feel Jeff Wayne captured the real deal based on HG's book when he released his very descriptive, surreal, terryfying, musical version "The War Of The Worlds" in 1978.

If you have never heard it, it would make a very worthwhile addition to your cd collection!! [approve]

The aliens came from the electrical storm. Most likely a ship that visited the outer layer of our atmosphere and created this storm due to the resistence.

I take it the vains where vains from us humans. I thought the aliens needed our blood or something to stay alive. There was a part where they where in the basement and one of the space ships used some type of needle or something to suck either blood or something from that guy.

Yeap, they are from the other movie that was made for TV back in the day.

Yeah, but if there was a ship in outer space, how come it didn't do anyhting when the ships on the ground were being destroyed. It couldn't of just left them.

He he I think we're beyond just entering the realms of fantasy now! [lol] Poor HG Wells would probably be laughing too.. His book was believable -for a sci fi- if aliens existed they probably would have arrived in the way he described them in his book and on the musical version, (in huge cylinders that crashed to earth making an enormous crater before slowly unscrewing at one end and letting the aliens loose in their manufactured "body" machines on our planet). Guess Mr. Berg felt that the original idea would have been too boring for his film? Pity as the cylinders landed on practically anything including houses!!

The original Wells book was first published in 1898, there is another WotW movie being released this year by Pendragon Pictures that re-creates the novel faithfully.

Imo the long tentacle reminds me of the water creature from The Abyss
