Just starting it up again as I did for Ivan last year ... the "T" shows where I am -- and oh the joy begins anew!! Landfall should be like Monday-ish, so the pictures will start flowing once it gets really fun here. Cheers!!!

I wish I was there, I'd love to see a hurricane in action.

Been through several, as well as tornados.

Is it cool? Yes?
Does the clean up suck more than it is cool? Yes.
You weigh the pros and cons. [lol]

My question is how do the coasters and parks stay in one piece

Coasters and most rides don't act like a giant sail in the wind like how houses and buildings do.

if you look at one of the biggest, MF (not that there are any hurricanes there) the structure lets all the wind through, but it they put a glass wall on the structure, it still has to be a stong hurrice to get the supports out of the concrete footers

theres not been a hurricane here in England since the month I was born (august 1987), so obviously I don't remember what that was like. We had a tornado going across the fields near my house two years ago though, that was quite fun ... obviously it was no where near anything like what you get in the US, the only damage it did was indirect, it scared one of the horses in the field, which then ran at a fence and promptly broke it [lol] funny to watch though.

There is lots of open air between supports for wind to travel through and around. If the supports were solid (say they looked like a side of a building) the wind would push it down. Same principle as why chain link fences stay up but those wood ones that are solid, vertical boards usually come crashing down.

Besides, why not just shut up and stop running your mouth? Man, if ever there was a diagnosed case of diarrhea of the mouth you would be the model test bed.

Turning a bit ... but still not great news as now we will be spanked with the intense winds/rain versus hving the eye over us (which we had for Ivan and that was not all that bad) ...

He is a Category 2 Hurricane now ...

Monty - I am not sure where in the US you are that the rain has stopped as this is the satellite picture from a few mins ago ... but ok I guess. [dunno]

Everyone ... as you can see, it is gaining strength and obviously reforming itself. Scream, I think you may be right about the possibility of this getting back up, to at least a 3. They are predicting here (note that I am 2.2 hours inland) that we will see sustained winds of 60 mph, with gusts over 90 ... and that is merely a projection now. No telling what tomorrow will actually bring.
