Having been able to hear what a track filled with sand sounds like (you can only hear the quiet rumbling of the wheels, and the supports shaking the ground) and hearing what a track sounds like without the sand bags, I'm most definately say without. The roar of the track and the echo left on it after the train passes by sounds pretty sweet, and its gay that some parks want to take that sound away. I think the sound adds a lot to the atmosphere, personally.

So what do you prefer? And why?

i Like the silence. It makes it sound so omenous. that and some parks have a noise ordinance, so its an option for a small park in a rural area.

The noise, definitely. When you stand next to Nemesis and its just roaring, it sounds amazing, then stand next to Air and its just mumbling around, just sounds crap. I much prefer the roaring sound of a B&M, IMO that is a trademark of theirs that they should be taking strides to preserve, not get rid of.

Having said that though, some parks need their coaster to be as quiet as possible and so they need the tracks to be filled with sand.

Im torn. I love the roar of Raptor and Mantis, however, Dueling Dragons is filled and its so cool to see and hear them move around the track silently.

Id probably say I prefer the noise but only slightly.

I can't tell, because i've never seen a b&m in real life, but the silent makes it a very peacefull rides, to fall asleep on, like darkrides...
but the noise has also the attidude of a rough ride....
but i'd go for DD and Talon, sand.

Without. Nemesis sounds awesome, like Gouldy said. I love the sound it makes when entering the first helix and from then on, its just a continuous loud angry roar that you can hear from a while away. This adds atmosphere IMO, especially with the nemesis music echoing eerily over this roar and the screams. TOP ATMOSPHERE. Its awesome. Quiet B&Ms are okay, but like Gouldy said, Air is too quiet.

I have fond memories of being on the first ever train on Batman the ride at SFGA. That roar is unmistakable. Still now when I'm in line and the train goes by it's exhilerating to hear the roar.

But, if sandbagging helps a park that's meeting resistance by it's neighbors, build a great ride, then I'm all for it. SFGA is my home park and every time they want to build they're stuck in meetings of resistance from the neighbors(who reap many benefits from living in a town who's main source of tax income is SF and Gurnee Mills mall). The park is low on space and further expansion is a must. So if quieter rides help them along. More power to them.

I prefer the noise more but I'm sure that there are ordinances from the towns and stuff that restricts noise to a certain level; kind of like they restict height at SFKK.

Noise = better. I can't wait to hear what raptor sounds like. I heard that you can't yourself talking when the train goes by.

The noise...it just enhances the effect, especially on rides like Top Gun, which are meant to "intimidate" you. Top Gun would seem kinda tame (which it is) without the noise as it swoops above you while you stand in line.

not really, you can hear a distant roar from mantis, but MF isnt loud at all. if my memory serves me right, it is about as loud as gemini....junior (another intamin btw)

its only noise is from the sky breaking around the train as it runs into it at 65 mph near the queue area.

Yeah, the stand ups are MEGA loud, and inverts dont have much of a noise at all. Silver Bullet it SILENCE, all you can head is the screams.

I believe its filled with sand, thats why.

Raptor is loud, though not quite as loud as Mantis. The track guage is a bit wider on the Stand Ups so naturally theres more volume to make noise.

noise defenatly... If you are Qing for Dragon Kahn and you'll hear/see the train coming though the cobra roll. What a powerfull roar! It makes me just want go more on that ride. But i'd think superman la attraction de acero is filled with sand and you really flow silent over the track.
But still i'd rather have a powerfull noise. The feeling of it is just in-dis-crib-able...

Standing near Raptor you may not be able to hear yourself talk, but in line for Mantis you can't hear yourself think.

Yea, there both pretty loud. I think that the Mantis is louder. But I don't really like the mantis because your head get bumped around. So Raptor is better coaster.
