I'm at work on my first major NL coaster and I know that staying in the green is desirable but is it ok for a coaster to go in the yellow sometimes for g-forces? I'm testing Valley View out and the first hill is perfect until I get to the bottom of it and start to climb up; my g's go a little into the yellow (about 3 or 4 I think). Not sure if this matters but I am creating a steel hypercoaster and my top speed so far is about 78-80mph. Also, how fast can a lift chain go and still be realistic? I'm so used to Ultimate Ride's default chain setting at 18mph which I know isn't very realistic, lol. I have Valley View's set at 8mph, is that pushing it?[confused]

On most steel coasters, brief yellow positive g's are just fine.

Chain lifts are generally between 5 and 10 mph. However, since there is no "cable lift" setting, you can usually go between 10 and 20 on an Intamin hypercoaster.

As far as G issues Princess -- this may help you as well (no membership is needed to read) -- but it lists the standards of the industry which can be applied to creating rides.

Please, whatever you do, dont go by the colors.

Use the numbers.

Heres mine
Wood:

Verts -1.6 to 4.8
Lats -2.2 to +2.2

Steel:
Verts -1.9 to 6.2
Lats -1 to +1

Those are tentative and I move around them by a tenth or so depending MOSTLY on the length the g's are held and the quickness.

Two things you need to watch. How long you hold the G's and how quickly you transition to them. You wouldnt want to go from -1 G's to 5 g's instantly (with no lead ins or outs meaning a smooth transition) and then hold that 5G for longer than 2 seconds.

You can get really complicated but just remember the higher the G's the shorter you want to hold it. Other than that, the human body can handle WAY more than the "Color meter" tells you. Plus real coasters would go "red" in quite a few instances. So ignore the color, use the numbers.

This is excellent information, thanks guys. Well it would seem that so far I'm doing just fine; my g's transition pretty smoothly from 1-4 in the section I'm testing. I want this ride to go no higher than 6g's in any section so I think I'll be ok. Thank you again and I will definitely keep a copy of those g-force guidelines to help me along. [:D]

The default g meter config in NL is very bad with positive vertical g's. It reds out at about 6g's and yellows around 4.5, pretty bad.

You can make a .cfg file and place it in the NL sim folder. Just create a new .txt in notepad, type in the following, and rename the extension to .cfg

Here's what I used for my cfg file. Of course, you can change it to whatever you want...

sim.vertg.posyellowlimit = 6.3
sim.vertg.posredlimit = 7.1
sim.vertg.negyellowlimit = -1.4
sim.vertg.negredlimit = -1.7
sim.latg.yellowlimit = 1.6
sim.latg.redlimit = 2.1
sim.accg.yellowlimit = 4.1
sim.accg.redlimit = 5.0

But as a post above said, go by the numbers, the colors are only there to assist you slightly.

those positive G's seem a little high...
Something more like:
sim.vertg.posyellowlimit = 5
sim.vertg.posredlimit = 6.5
...

This is mine:
sim.vertg.posyellowlimit = 4.7
sim.vertg.posredlimit = 6.7
sim.vertg.negyellowlimit = -0.6
sim.vertg.negredlimit = -1.8
sim.latg.yellowlimit = 0.7
sim.latg.redlimit = 1.8
sim.accg.yellowlimit = 1.6
sim.accg.redlimit = 4.5

I set the positive vert g yellow limit to 5.9 and the red limit to 6.7. I also changed the negetive vert g yellow limit to -1.2 and the negetive vert g red limit to -1.6

I don't know if I want to try and tinker with that stuff. I don't really want to modify my game too much; I think I'll just stick with going by the numbers like Real said. But that is pretty interesting and I didn't know that you could alter the game that way.

Princess, as always my offer stands to test anything and help out where I can. Just give a holler, ok?
