Yet another one *sigh*. I feel bad for you. Doesn't look like it's headed for me, but the jet stream will probably push the remains of it toward me. Good luck with this one.

New Orleans appears to be about to bear the brunt of this storm ... more to follow as the day progresses.

Birmingham was founded in 1871 after the Civil War with a population today of 1,052,238. So, let me ask .... can't the school districts in the UK afford to buy world maps and learn facts like this before reading it on a coaster site forum? Image

I live in pensacola fl. right next to the fl/al state line, pensacola is so far away from where its going to hit, but because of the size, we will get hurricane force winds most likely. at least it didnt come near pensacola, otherwise cleanup would be killer. For right now, im doing landscaping, and with almost 80 clients, thats killer clean up. So im glad it didnt hit here, but not glad that new orleans is going to get wiped out.

Well, the storm has weakened slightly this morning. It is unlikely that New Orleans will get "wiped out", but it will suffer extensive flooding and heavy damage to less stable structures. Nothing that a month or so of cleanup won't mend. NO is very lucky that the eyewall is passing to the east, and the intensity of the storm dropped down to 140 mph rather than the 175 mph monster it was yesterday. The damage will still be very bad, though.

Decent rain, some wind, nothing more. My issue now is our cruise is supposed to leave from New Orleans in three weeks .... could be an interesting issue since this is posted on the Carnival webpage today in regards to THIS week's cruise that is returning:

Guests that parked at the pier in New Orleans will not be able to access their cars until there is a complete assessment of the area.

It appears though, that a contingency plan has been worked out:

The Sensation August 27, 2005 cruise will now return to Galveston, Texas on September 1, 2005. Guests will debark and take air or land transportation back home.

The Sensation September 1, 2005 cruise will depart and return to Galveston, Texas.

We are on the Sept 19th cruise, so at least we should be ok to leave and come back -- although the drive is three hours farther to get there. Argh.
