I'm just a part-time student, so the books for my 2 classes were about $300.

All my books are given to me. If I'm lucky the teacher has enough copies so that one book can stay at home.

We get given books and just hand them back at the end of the year, theres no need to keep the books once your done with them. Usualy a book circulates for 4-5 years through the classes, so if your unlucky you get the most mangaled piece of crap possible

Books circulate for 4-5 years at your school????? Some of ours are 15-20 years old and will probably be used for a few more years still. I do go to an inner city school without much money though so I'm not that suprised.

Same as my school. I have ended up taking 11 or 12 subjects this year. [:p] So my book pile is gonna be big, with 2 books for most subjects. Yikes. What subjects are you guys taking. Mine is:
S.P.U (Science of public understanding, so extra science really) - A level
Science - GCSE
Maths - GCSE
English - GCSE
French - GCSE
History - GCSE
Art - GCSE
Graphics D&T - GCSE
Religious education - GCSE
P.E - GCSE
P.S.M.E - not a qualification, just a crappy subject my school made up. [xx(][:p][lol]

I think ive missed one but im not sure.
