In another sad turn of events, we the coaster enthusiast community are mourning the loss of Mr. Ron Toomer. Toomer worked for Arrow Dynamics and designed coaster like the late Big Bad Wolf, Cedar Point's Magnum XL-200, and Desperado just outside Las Vegas, NV among other rides.
Yup. Toomer is as much to credit for the Golden Age of coasters as anyone between the 80's to the 2000s. hes to credit for breaking several height barriers, inversion barriers and overall for pushing the limits to what we have today.
Sad loss. I respected the man a lot even if his designs now a days aren't as "coveted" or even made fun of. He certainly did as much with what he had as anyone out there.
I will bend a coat hanger tonight in honor of the man, since I saw one laying around the other day.
Great collection, Jonny, but, no tribute to Ron Toomer is complete without a couple pics of Vortex at KI and Viper at SFMM. Another legend has come and gone, but not forgotten. The mark he made in the coaster world will forever live on.
knott's corkscrew was an amazing thing, we moved to buena park just before it opened .. i was too short to ride the motorcycles, but my dad got me on the corkscrew.. great ride.
We will all miss him dearly. Akin to layman Corkscrew at Knott's was my first coaster with inversions. Should we have a Toomer designed coaster contest or build off?
I remember when Viper opened. It was a smooth ride back then. Longest queue line ever though.
What's also sad is my new phone that I am using to write this has more memory and power than my PC.
Very sad news. Ron Toomer is my favorite roller coaster designer and has made the amusement industry what it is today.
I still think that the vertical loops on Arrow coasters are the best looking vertical loops ever made. Especially Viper's at SFMM. That first vertical loop is amazing to look at.
Love CCMR.. love Gemini... Adore Magnum. I'm sorry to see him pass. He really added a lot to our beloved world of roller coasters, not much that words could say other than thanks...
