Does anyone else experience significantly lower frame rates in the screensaver mode? I typically get 90+ fps when launching the program normally, but only 50-60 in the screensaver on the same track. Not only is the framerate lower but I get numerous video hiccups.

Incidently, I noticed that shutting down an unrelated CPU-intensive program running in the background helped this screensaver fps condition a bit. Any ideas?

Actually its because you have vertical sync on in the screensaver. You should have that on in the real game. Having the framereate above the monitor refreshed rate (usually 60) actually degrades quality. 90 fps will look worse than 60 on an lcd and i don;t any crt's that sync at 90hz. Go to option and turn on vertical sync so that it uses 60 fps instead of 90.

Thanks so much for your insight; I see what you mean now regarding the vertical sync-- the picture does look better (less artifacting?) with vertical sync turned on. I still wonder why the screensaver stutters though; the frame rate does go down when it happens, and it doesn't happen in the regular program.

Regarding the I/O question, I've got 2 SATA WD Raptors in RAID 0 as my system drive.

Mine was installed automatically when I recently purchased and installed NL 1.7. It's basically the greatest screensaver of all time.
