I said my peace Freddie .... stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Especially, when you have more outstanding news like this

"- Has moved us on the road to socialism" - and I'm drinking the KoolAid? I asked for elaboration on things I don't know about to better understand them, and you're just going to tell me that "you said your peace[sic]" and not give me the benefit of explanation? Sounds to me like some hollow, un-backed talking points there.

I agree someone in the administration, be it Obama or not (which I highly doubt is the one who makes or gets anywhere near decisions like that), dropped the ball on the Times Square bomber, but reading the comments on that site tell me all I need to know about it.

What's so wrong with socialism anyways?
Boulder Dash was the only good roller coaster.

See the above links as well. You can actually look me in the eye and tell me that the changes in the last year and a half have not moved us closer to Socialism? With a straight face and clear conscience? Perhaps you are farther gone than I originally thought ...

I guess social security, welfare, health insurance for government employees are also existing examples of socialism in the USA right now since they tax people and others benefit from it.

I'm totally laughing at the fascism on this forum. Socialism would be okay if it merely increased the income of the poorer people so they would have a living wage (as Gordon Brown puts it) and that the taxes were aimed more towards the rich since they're the ones who can get more money the easiest.

As for the videos shown by Coasterkidmwm the Chernobyl disaster was caused by the design of the core, which was structurally poor. The shooting one does not represent a goverment, it represents a few idiotic and trigger happy troopers. End of.

imo, there are already enough "social" resources out there for anyone with low income to go to school in order to get a degree so they can be better qualified to work a middle class job. The main reason why people are poor in this country is because they are to lazy to get a higher education or there is no will to make something of themselves.
There are always acceptions to the rule. Some people are just in crappy situations. But there's a way around anything, it just depends on how much work are you willing to put out in order to better yourself? But i guess if you can just vote some one like Obama into office, he'll set you up with everything you need, and voting is much easier then busting your ass for something you want.

Fascism: Defined as a political ideology that seeks to combine radical and authoritarian nationalism with a corporatist economic system, and which is usually considered to be on the far right of the traditional left-right political spectrum.

Please, don't use words you don't understand. No one here is claiming to be a fascist, nor is anyone touting this as a 'cause' to take up. However my eager young political scientist, when the President of the United States has a huge supporter calling him a "socialist", you have to wonder what's the real agenda.

Why is everyone on here so quick to think that we need one or the other when it comes to socialism vs. capitalism? Just like pretty much everything else, I think we need a good balance of the two, not either extreme in its purest sense.

I guess since Obama is moving things slightly closer to the left from where they have been for the last 10 years you could say he's moving towards us socialism. Even Ron Paul, who's on the complete opposite side of the spectrum, realizes that he's not this radical socialist most of the right make him out to be.

All I'm going to say here is that Obama's "socialist" healthcare program mandates that you have to buy insurance........not from the government but from a PRIVATE company. You can bitch about the Constitutionality of the mandate, and I will too for different reasons, (I think if something is going to be mandated, it has to be provided for everyone in the lowest form regardless - if that's socalisim than so be it - but there should be a public health option with the mandate) but in the end this program is NOT socialist as it is in the interest of private enterprise.

I think that's fair Freddie, I can accept your view on this. What I'm seeing though (and hence the socialistic emphasis) is a complete lack of listening to the people who elected these officials. When the people (that would be us ... FYI ... the voters who put them into office) said NOT to pass the health care bill, the "elected" decided that they knew better and decided to pass it anyway ... chanting "yes we can" all the way to 217 votes on the floor of the United States Senate. It's bad form my friends, and in my opinion we are about to see a good deal of proverbial "pink slips" handed out in November.

Obama ran on health care reform, and the people voted him in. I think right now there's a discrepancy between "the majority" and "the loudest".

The government kept accident records from people who ran the same type of reactor since they were so full of themselves, so this is something that can be entirely blamed on the government. The whole plant was built with terrible safety and design standards (the place wasn't even level) under government authorization, and it blew up while they were carrying out a safety test. The dials were bad, and whole thing was designed and constructed poorly. It's incompetent to say that the entire disaster isn't entirely the Soviets fault.

That event was so bad that they gave soldiers the option of doing a tour in Afghanistan or cleaning up radioactive waste for 1 minute (tossing blocks that fell on the roof into the glowing radioactive pit). They were just as screwed in both cases.

The instruments on the helicopters that were dumping boron and sand into the pit failed for most part, and overall it was just a terrible situation.
