CoasterCrazy.com Fund Raiser MeterDear fellow CoasterCrazy.com members,

Over the years we have enjoyed your company, your roller coaster designs, your forum posts, your comments and ratings. Let?????????s face it, each one of you has contributed to this website one way or another. Although some of you have been naughty and been bad! *looks at coasterkidmwm* Nevertheless it has given the lives of many people to do something where there is nothing else to do. We have, over the course of many years, provided this website free of charge, and will continue to do so. I, Oscar, have spent countless amount of money paying for hosting, paying for expert coding, paying for maintenance. I am fortunate to have had people help me financially and keep the website open in our hardest times. Many thanks to all. Many thanks to Bockzilla for being the biggest contributor.

Over the course of the years we have done many updates and upgrades. Unfortunately due to our base coding which started with some flimsy free forum software, we are rather limited as to where we can evolve to. Basically we have reached the breaking point and can no longer continue to develop this website and as you can see from the past couple of months, this site is slowly dying.

Rather than for us to continue beating this dead horse over and over we would rather get us a new horse. I mean we could keep on adding make up to the site but that still doesn't cover the fact that this website has reached its max point. It just can't be developed further due to the limitations that have been reached, pushed up and broken over.

This website has become a handicapped small wonder and has the potential to be so much more. However, for us to continue, we have to develop the site from the ground up again. For this, we are required to spend at least $2,500 in software, server upgrades and expert custom programming. This is just a rough estimate and can cost more. However, with this new fresh start, we can rest assured that with the input you provide, we can finally make CoasterCrazy.com what you really want it to be????????? your home away from home.
Well, we are asking you here today to see if you can share some of the holiday spirit and help us out with a dollar or two? We all go out and spend hundreds and some thousands of dollars during the holidays. However, what you buy is for someone else to enjoy and you just watch the enjoyment. Which brings many joys and satisfaction seeing such. However here, you?????????ll get a brand new spanking redone site and continue downloading tracks, taking quizzes, viewing theme park videos and exclusive on-ride videos from around the world, see the high quality pictures from theme parks around the world and more. Giving a dollar or twenty dollars is simple reinvesting in your own satisfaction. You can help CoasterCrazy.com be redone to better serve you and to serve everyone else as well.

Once the goal has been reached, we will start work. We will start taking input on all the features that should be implemented. You will have a voice of what should get built and what is not needed. You get to say what should be have a bigger focus and what doesn't need that much focus. After all, you are the ones using this website.

Thank you for reading this long message and thank you for your input and gracious donations. Donations can be made through PayPal.com, simply click the large PayPal logo at the bottom of any page of this website. We can also receive, checks, money orders and cash through snail mail. Please send me a private message if you would like to use snail mail. We will update the fund meter each day until we reach that goal.

Thank you, we appreciate your generosity and may you have a great holiday season,

Sincerely,
The CoasterCrazy.com Staff

it is easy enough really, I was just trying to do something to make it easier for myself in the future, but it wasn't working like I wanted it to. But it's easy enough just to press donate and put your card details in, it's how I spend most of money anyhow, buying stuff on the net, all works just like that!

Unfortunately I can't give you any money, but can give you some good advice on server configurations depending on what language you're using.

If you're using PHP you will be better off avoiding Apache and go for a lighter server like Nginx (Engine X) as it uses less memory and can handle a lot of concurrent requests.

For images and files it can serve them at a rate of 1,500 req/s on a small 256mb machine.

That's 129,600,000 hits per day.

And it can handle PHP requests at a rate of 300 req/s

That's 25,920,000 hits per day to PHP.

It uses about 5MB of ram when serving those hits so please don't go for Crapache :)

I know this is a weird post from me, but you will only pay someone else to tell you the same thing.

Here are some resources you may be interested in :

PHP FPM
APC Cache

Everyone benefits from and enjoys this site pretty much on a daily basis, and totally for free. As a site owner myself I know what it takes to run a site like this and keep things fresh and new. Even though my site does not do the "business" this one does, it is still a labor of love and there is nothing Oscar enjoys doing more than providing us with a good place to hang out and be informed. Kicking in a little donation to help CoasterCrazy (aka WeeWeeSlap) is really not asking for the world and in the long run I really think you will enjoy the changes he has planned.

Personally, I really believe in this site, and in our community - and if you want it to continue to thrive we all need to be supporters.

So, what do you say ... can you help?

Disclaimer: No, Oscar did not ask me to post this -- I just felt the need and maybe hearing it from someone else might inspire one or more to give a little.
Sometimes the best thing to say is nothing at all.
