I find sm easer to use than nl.The track is just a little harder to make smooth ,but supports are very easy to use in sm. Also sm loads faster than nl. I also hear sm2 will use wire frame and full rendering to build with.

I got a question. Do any real life coasters have pumping, like rides in SM sometimes do? I know some rides have headbanging, but is it possible to find a real life coaster with say, a pumpy helix? I'd be curious to see what it feels like because I don't imagine it would be painful. It just isn't too attractive.

You wont find rides with pumpy helicies but some rides do feature some on-purpose pumping in hills - even a few new ones though its not the most graceful of ways.

ALOT of the older wooden coasters pumped all over the hills though turns were probably still pretty pumpless. They made their hills with flat tops but sharp radii entering and exiting them so you got a vicious pop of air entering the top of the hill, some floater over the mid section then another rip of ejector going over.

Take a look at just about every Golden-Age wooden coaster, and you will find pumping in the turns. When coasters were eventually designed with computers and better construction methoeds were employed, there was less pumping. But you will still find plenty of wooden rides that pump like crazy.

EDIT: Just saw that Real posted, and I completely agree with the hills part. There are alot of eccentricities in the radii of the curves though (take a look at Hurler at PKD) so I tend to find alot of pumping in pre-computer-designed coasters.

Didn't think of it before, but the Cyclone at SFNE has a wicked pump going up into the big turnaround. I didn't think of it as a pump, but I guess it is. It's gradually turning left, then suddenly gets sharper, then gets gradual again. It really jerks your neck sideways.

SM 2 is being rebuilt from the ground up, SM 1 is really just too outdated to be worth working on any further. (not just the glitches, the engine and stuff is pretty old and it doesn't even support stereo sound) It would probably be better to just get SM 1 and wait for SM 2.

Actually, SM1 supports not only stereo sound (only for certain things that make sense), but 3D sound as well. But I agree with the rest [:)]

Then something must be wrong. I reorientated the camera so the coaster trains was to the left of the display and were on a lift, and the lift sounds were still coming clearly to both speakers, even after moving fairly far away. The ones I'm using right now are crap and don't support stereo (since my bro stole my good speakers with a small subwoofer and took them to a retreat for his alarm clock or something) but I remember when I was wandering around and noticed that before he took my speakers. Maybe it's a setting I overlooked.

It may not be as stereo as you expected to be. Sometimes it's easy to tell that it is stereo in most parts just by wearing headphones (I tried that once myself) I think it's mostly a motion type of mono sounds that shifts left and right as if your in a real coaster environment. For now I think that's considered stereo. Hopefully SM2 will change all that. For now I think SM1 sounds good just the way it is and I have no complaints about it.

I would be surprised if sm2 got so addicting that it would be worth spending time at night until like 3 a.m. in the morning.

I've done that with RCT3, Black and White 2, Doom 3, and Unreal Tournament 2. Some games are too addicting.
