Finally got Solid Works and No Limits Coaster working together!!! Such a happy day for me cuz I have been at this for months. I can go from NL to SW and from SW to NL using excel and purg. Just gotta work on banking now.

My perfect cork in SW. Gonna see if I can make a perfect interlocking cork set like Kumba's.

Solid works is a 3d modeling program like 3d studio max. Except its more for mechanical things, like a coaster, car, engine. You can build the whole coaster, track, suppots, terrian, wiring, lighting, gears, motors, everything. Can even do wind tunnel testing, stress testing, etc.

So, this is basically an alternative to Sketchup and the Construction Kit? I may have to try this..

Well its alternative track editor. Compared to elementry and newton.

Wait... what? That's pretty cray.

Solid works is a great program, it is the standard today for business. The enginners where I work use it to design models, bluprints, and ultimately I machine the parts for them. It will even analyze stress of parts and theoretical use in reality. One very big drawback...the price!

The main reason I like it is for being able to project and intersect sketches. So I can design an element from say the top view and side view and project them together for an awesome result.

I can't wait to see your first NL coaster using SOLID WORKS!

That corkscrew is awful for Kumba [lol] That looks more like a corkscrew on, well, Corkscrew than it does one on a B&M coaster. B&M (and all modern corkscrews, for that matter) have a very distinct shape, and are probably not going to be easy to make in any modeling program that isn't force-based.

However, I most definitely suggest that you use this capability to make an Arrow coaster that kicks ass. Given they were designed using geometry and not force, I can easel see how you could make a nearly perfect Arrow coaster. I'm just worried that modern designs won't turn out as good as you think they will.

Force vector is possible with this program, but I have no clue right now. Right now I can only do like you said, arrow dynamics designs, or geometry based. Which is what I like anyways. I've been studying the kumba corks for awhile now and cant find anything to suggest its different from an arrow cork, other than it may be a bit more stretched out and banked differently. But the cork appears to be very round still. If you have any pics to prove other wise I would love to see them.

^They are rounded but so are many other flat-spins. Definitely not a linear roll rate like Arrows, nor a geometric shape.

Yeah, there's no way in hell that they're geometry-based. It's definitely subtle, but you can't build a geometry based ride and expect it to ride like a B&M, no matter how hard you try.

Well I got bored with formulas and trying to figure out different methods of creating elements, including heartline force vectored elements and decided to make an arrow dive loop. Many things wrong with the shaping and scaling and still have to figure out how to export banking information but heres a screen.

I'm downloading SW 2010, now. Perhaps I should start getting used to this suite if I'm going to major in mechanical engineering in the near future.

Ya maybe we can work together to figure things out.

As far as mechaincal engineering goes, I'd say this program is the best of the best.

Had a chance to play around with terrain, tunnels and supports a bit.
