at some point it was announced that SOB is closed for the season despite being cleared by the state. Apparently this news hasn't made it over here yet?

my thought is that are getting new trains that might help the "roughness" problem.

Nope, SOB received new trains after the loop was removed.

They actually weren't new trains, they were the trains from Hurricane at Myrtle Beach Pavillion, which was demolished.

Yea and that's why the ride tuerned so rough...it was smooth (smoother than now anyway) with the heavier trains because they didn't bounce around so much. The heavier trains caused warps in the track and the Hurricane trains were too light to navigate the loop so they took the loop out and fixed the warps and now the lighter trains are more prone to bouncing around and "wagging the tail" as I call it. So they basically sacrificed a not as rough ride to get new trains that wouldn't require retracking every 3 to 5 years, but now it seems it didn't go as planned and they are having more unexpected problems...hopefully they can get through it and find a solution. Well Ragan,I'm about the same height and weight as you. And I know EXACTLY what your talking about, lol! The last ride I can remember that hurt me that bad was Batman & Robin: The Chiller, when it had the overhead restraints. And even when they switched to just a lap bar, I felt like I was sitting in a chair from a 1st grade classroom!

I don't think even a magical re-tracking could help this ride.

Ah. I thought they came from Villain since Cedar Fair kinda owned those anyways. Figured, why buy new ones?

They should make Daughter of Beast and make it a crappy airless GCI.

The trains came from GL...nothing to do with Myrtle Beach.

No...they didn't. The GL trains are sitting in storage there, but the two that ran on SOB were from Hurricane. Son Of Beast reopened before GL had closed. GL didn't even have two of the type SOB ran (the closed in type), they only had one which came from Legend at Holiday World. The other three they had were the open front type which were for Villain (Villain was supposed to have 3 trains originally, with an MCBR, but that never got installed, so they used the third on Raging Wolf Bobs along with the Legend train).

^^point is that they have got different and lighter trains...right!?!?
So just drop it. Along with the ride.

This is like the case of Psyclone at MM. Although not as rough. Point is they both deserve to DIE!!! I think somebody should "accidentally" light the ride on fire.
Sometimes you gotta sacrifice a little bit of yourself to get the job done.

it should be open next year. everyone is overreacting to them taking down some signs. it's an expensive record breaking coaster that still has plenty of fans. it will reopen

I hope it does...as rough as it is it's still an awesome coaster to say you've been on...IMO in was totally worth the roughness to show people pix and vids and say "Yea...I've been on that SOB" (<<<HEHE get it??)

i wouldn't bet on it. all the ride needs it a re-profile of the rose bowl. everything else is fine.

Which is putting more money into a poor design with low ridership. It just isn't worth it. On top of it, the rosebowl's shape pretty much prohibits any type of re-profiling that would be beneficial to keeping it running smooth, so really all they can do is retrack it which means it will be beat up again in a few years.

Even if they do have it running smooth....I think it is a lack luster ride and I know when I went it didn't hold any sort of line. I thought the ride was very boring outside of the rosebowl which was only interesting because of the extreme jack hammering at the bottom. I don't care about the records it breaks....it just isn't a good ride imo and costs way too much money for the park. This is like the third time it's been down due to an "accident".....why keep throwing money at it if it's just going to keep needing more repairs (and yes I know what goes into wood coaster maintenance, but Son Of Beast needs/gets far more work than most coasters need to).
