What do I think? Big Deal. Still absolutely no reason to get one. You can get Blu Ray players now for less than that if you shop and the price will still go down.
However, Blu Ray is living up to its billing as second fiddle to HDDVD (well, the billing I made up in my head ). I have heard, seen first hand and read lots of reports of Blu Ray owners having to do quite a few firmware updates in order to read discs.
One large problem is Disney has more than beefed up their security and if you dont have the absolute latest firmware (which requires a dvd burner I believe) your disc will skip so bad its unwatchable. I witnessed it on Bridge to Terabithia. I think its just plain ridiculous that you even need to do that. If the future of Blu Ray holds nothing but update after update for its users, I bet well see alot of frustrated customers along the way and possibly some companies switching to HD DVD.
My buddy has both HD DVD and Blu Ray and so far prefers his HD. Both have the same quality and both look exactly the same. However, the HD hasnt required a single update and the Blu Ray has required around 4 or 5.
So, Sony can keep saying they arent worried and that its "long term" goals will be met. But I am really starting to doubt it.
Plus they dont have any marquee games and they only have 92 titles - none of which arent OMGZORZ or solely on the PS3, makes you wonder how much money they will lose in the long run.
