I don't think a stopwatch is a very good way of measuring the acceleration time ;)

How isnt it? I press it when we start, then when we stop. Hows it NOT accurate when Im riding the train?

Not like I stand there and watch it, trying to guage it.

because you must be accurate to the .001 of a second, duh! even if its 0.002, its far to innacurate..........[lol]

I think what ever works for you. maybe for comersials they must be accurate, but i mean a stopwatch is good enough just for curiosity. Its not like all of us have the proper eqip. for an accurate timing. or do we?

Yea considering the only actual data we get from the parks is to the 0.1.

Right...

*cough* IF *cough*
But still, Some cars have better acceleration (and I'm not talking about the ferrari's and saleens, ect, but like your rally cars can get about the same exceleration as that, which means its nothing special

you know jpe, I have a real urge to ride Rita again, I think I may be addicted to the launch feeling ... I keep telling my dad to accelerate away from traffic lights as fast as he can, he usually says no though, he does it when there is no one around, our car does 0-60 in about 5 seconds so its no where near as good as Rita. I may just go and ask my dad now if he can take me to Alton Towers this thrusday aswell [lol]

Anyway, to try and make this post pertainent, I had better say something about project Stealth [lol] ... so yeah, there was one question I had, do we know anything yet about how many trains this runs, or the capacity of the ride?

EDIT: 1000 posts!! yipee! [lol]

yeah go on thursday!!!!!! [:D]Actually dont cos the rest of my year and others are going so i would go the day after to save bumping in to so many chavs! Although chavs in half school uniform! [:p]

Its not too accurate because even if you can respond quickly to the launch, you will probably lose about .15 to .2 seconds from the launch, which is pretty significant in timing how close the park measures the acceleration time. Plus, theres also the end launch time to respond to, so you probably can be about .5 seconds (either way) innacurate.

-+ 0.5 would be a very good stat if we knew it was an average of several rides. I hope that you dont assume that these things launch at the exact same speed in the exact same time every single launch, do you?

So considering the ride already fluctuates, those original numbers the park gives you are nothing more than fancy averages, usually not close to the actual ride since most specs are taken from before the rides even built during the computer phase - not the actual ride operation.

I'm glad they're getting a rocket coaster, I'm heading to Alton, Thorpe, and Blackpool next year. After riding KK it'll be mild, but I've gotta make it a mission to hit all the rocket coasters.

*I bring great news...

*Thorpe Park has been busy putting up new advert boards for ' Project Stealth'. As well as comparing the height of the rocket coaster to the other attractions, the speed has now been corrected to the more realistic/thrilling 0-80 mph in 2.5 seconds!

*See:
http://stealth.thorpeparkmania.co.uk/construction/

*In other news, there are rumors that management have narrowed the coasters name choice down to 3 contenders. Further rumors suggest one of those names is 'Scream' & that the project name 'Stealth' is still in the running, as happened with Rita...
