The mini hyper craze is kinda old now. I think it's time for the Micro Hyper craze! Tracks shorter than 2,000 ft., no faster than 55mph, no higher than 100ft. That'll produce awesomeness in a box.
Hates oscar for taking points...

I think they're getting to be overdone because so many look the same, and as people said, most aren't very good. I agree that a sudden influx of rides based on or featuring one concept can be annoying at times.

My biggest similar annoyance is the ridiculous overuse of the oppositely banked hill/turn. I think it boils down to a few basic reasons: Most look almost exactly the same as the last, and there has been little originality in their implementation; they're generally completely different from the designer's ride style. I almost cringe when I see a B&M with one, and it also happens with many other styles. They usually just completely kill the realism of the design.

I do think, though, that people should try not to rate originality based primarily on how many rides of that particular style have come out recently. People should rate originality mostly based on the quality of the individual ride. Who cares if there were 10 minihypers that came out recently... if this particular one does this well, and has that new element, it shouldn't be docked points because it's a popular coaster style IMO. I hate when that happens to me, and I'm sure other people do too.

I think people need to make proper lift hills for these Mega Lites they are building. I havent seen one with a proper lift hill.

Even these much smaller intamins have the large radius lift pullover.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

btw alton, keep in mind that Intamin in particular has used many different pullover sizes on their rides... ranging from Fahrenheit to Millennium Force. They're usually proportional to the ride size, but it seems that's not always the case, or the only factor. So I'd say some variation is ok there, but if you don't know what to do, the safest decision would be to copy Piraten and the other Intamini's shaping.

You've always been the shaping master to me. I mean look at your B&M looper from the tourney. Brilliant realism.

Suck it up Im building one now too, and people wont stop making them. Asking us to stop making mini hypers is like saying don't make woodies, or "What ever you do don't make a rocket coaster!"

just because you dont like them doesnt mean that none of us do. Stop being such a self centered a**hole.
So, my friend came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a frozen banana, and I said no, but I want a normal banana later, so... yea.

Im pretty certain that Maverick is not a mini-hyper. I would classify a mini-hyper as the ride that uses a chain or cable lift and follows a more traditional hyper course. Like a smaller version of Goliath or SROS. Maverick isnt really a mini-hyper - at least to me.

Hyper means over 200 feet in height or drop length. Not sure why some people say a hyper coaster can't have inversions.

wow, i am learning alot in this topic.

the problem with saying don't build them is that people will instantly think, i might just give a min-hyper a go! It's called reverse psychology! even if it isn't delibarate, you might as well have not said anything.

^Dcs is also right. I just used those two "traditional" hypers as examples. However, being a traditionalist, I wouldnt call a 200ft tall inverting hyper a hyper coaster. Id use another name just to be more specific and not so general.
