Talon

Talon The Grip of Fear at Dorney Park will be closed from August 17th, 2009 though August 24th, 2009. Thats if we are lucky. The reason for this closure is a failure of the lift motor. The ride ceased operations at about 1:30 PM EDT on August 17.

If anyone was wondering, yes, people were on the ride at the time of the incident. A 10-** was called in and the riders were evacuated from the ride with no major issues.

The Talon plaza is now blocked off with benches and trash cans and orange "Lock Out" (lol) tape. The crew, (Of which I am one if you didnt already know.) has been disbanded and set to other rides. Most will stay in the area.

If anyone was wondering what I have been working, it was three rides.

1. Screaming Swing (S&S Air Powered Swing)
2. Antique Carousel (1921 Dentzel Carousel) (Formally located at Cedar Point. Known for being haunted.)
3. Hang Time (HUSS Top Spin)
4. Possessed (Intamin LIM Launch Inverted Shuttle Coaster)
5. Thunder Canyon (IDK who made it. 8 person raft ride with 22 boats.)

Didn't you say something happened with the lift hill before this in one of the podcasts?

Those were GIs, (Guest Issue) not a total failure of the lift motor.

^ Turn the key, push a button and push and hold another button. Then the ride does all the work.

The lift motor was removed from the ride today. The new motor will be coming from Carowinds and Talon should be back up and running by Monday.

It was that serious, huh? sort of like what they are doing with the launch system on kingda ka

So, any clue on what caused the motor to give? Lack of maintenance, overheat, etc?

^ The motor wore out. Remember, Talon has been around since May 5, 2001. Figure all that time, its just something that was expected to happen during the rides service life. Parts die out and get replaced, thats whats happening.

^^ No, Ka's stuff was damaged, Talon's just came to the end of its service life.

Hmm, I wonder why it would take soo long to install it.

Do they have to replace the entire gearbox system as well?

Talon was open as of yesterday. Thanks for the speedy delivery from Carowinds and Afterburn's back up lift motor.
