I think you're misunderstanding.
A short ride means there's less ride time to do interesting stuff and subject the rider to interesting forces. Therefore short rides tend to rely on gimmicks for example:
Kingda Ka - Tallest and Faster roller coaster in the world at time of building. Compare that to something like Kanonen as Liseberg where they can't have the tallest or faster roller coaster due to local constraints - the ride length is a good 20 seconds longer and it does far more with those 50 seconds than Kingda Ka.
If you had Kanonen's 46.6mph launch into its minature tophat and then finished the ride it would be an awful awful ride. Launched Woodie is not enough of a gimmick to warrant a short layout.
Further to that - when people see a spread out ride they see it as forceless, because more spread out = more gradual turns and transitions = less force. Like Skyarrow said we can only truly tell from a POV.
