wow. just wow. yes, apocalypse is scary as hell but they didn't really give that large a scale of rollercoasters, i mean, come on! it showed how air was overrated but it needed more, like shockwave is scarier simply because it is just soooo old. thoughts?

I wouldn't expect them to go through 'every' coaster in the UK, but their ride choices were a bit odd.
Screw Commercialism. It's Dr.Gumbo, not CokeZero.

this is what i have just fired off to them

to the gadget show team,

i love the gadget show and watch it religiously however this week i was really really disappointed by what you classed as the UK top roller coasters

the choice of coasters was poor to say the least, you could of chosen coasters like nemesis, kumba, infusion but you had to chose air which isn't a thrilling ride. its a family ride and Apocalypse which ISN'T A ROLLER COASTER!!!!!!!!!, its a drop tower so is classed as a flat ride. stealth was a good choice yes but to say Apocalypse is the UK's best roller coaster i am extremely disappointed at this and i think you have wrongfully portered the UK roller coasters.
why did you not do your research beforehand and didn't speak to the roller coaster fans like myself and a lot of groups out there about the subject before you embarked on the "UK top roller coaster" to only chose a ride that's not a roller coaster.

I'm extremely disappointed in this program and hope in future you will do your research properly instead of the poor attempt you made on this program. i have always liked and regarded the gadget show as one of the best programs on the TV at the moment but this episode really disappointed me.

Gazag, no offence, but the show isn't aimed towards the "coaster enthusiast" so before you get your knickers in a twist you have to realise most of the viewers wouldn't know.

You sending an email make the whole community look like freakin' morons, thanks.

not morons, just people who actually give a poop. I'm sorry but no matter what happens, know your stuff before you do anything, even if it's not for coaster enthusiasts.

Join the real world, it was a good show and most people wouldn't know anything was wrong. I'm sure you didn't write a complaint about how expensive the Honda lawnmower was.

I bet of you ask any retard on the street if a drop tower is a rollercoaster. I'm 100% sure he'll answer No.

At least they could have filled the program with only rollercoasters. (Since that's the name of the episode anyhow) If they wanted to add the drop tower. They should have changed the name to "UK Top Thrill Rides" And not "UK Top Roller Coasters".
Coastercount: 1410 (I've seen the world and it's horrid contraptions... @.@)

Lol, I just watched it on youtube now. I don't really understand how they could have looked at Alton Towers and chosen Air over Oblivion, Nemesis and even Rita. It's a very mild ride frankly. They probably just thought the concept looked cool. I don't really understand half the stuff they say about it though. As far as I know, Air has NO inversions so why the heck did they say it had two. Also, if they were looking for a ride that made it appear as though you were going to smash into the surroundings, surely Air's neighbour Nemesis would have been a much better choice. I love how that woman keeps referring to Apocalypse as a roller coaster too. You don't even have to be an enthusiast to tell the difference. You just need two brain cells; something that none of the people on that show clearly have [:p]

i know it wasent aimed towards the enthusiast but they NEED TO DO THERE REASERCH befor they undertake something, no it dosent seem like were morons by the E-mail as they were 100% wrong on what was there. just for example AIR dosent have 2 inversions, it has 1 which is the final twist which is what i would class as an inversion. apocolypse isnt a roller coaster its a drop tower and stealth isnt powered by neumatic motors its powered by hydrolic motors just to name a few things.

so im sorry if you think theis email makes you sound like a moron but its 100% fact what i have written and if there going to tell people about things they could at least get them right.

why would i do this? the lawn mowers were exactally what was reviewed. they were 3 high end mulching lawn mowers and were reviewed very well because THEY DID THERE REASERCH so what is the point in you posting that? its a diffrent bloddy matter now matt try and think about what your posting before you post. now i think the only person who looks like a moron is you

i got a responce from the executive producer today which is great of him to do and explanes a few points and he accepts the fact that it wasent acutally a roller coaster too, RESULT

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your email. I'm really pleased that you like our show so much and I'm really sorry if you felt we got it wrong this week. The intention was to find the UK 's scariest ride - I apologise if we made a technical error by describing all these as roller coasters when they weren't.

The fact was that we didn't want to limit our testing to pure roller coasters and as such we probably did get the terminology wrong. However, I think the overall test was still very strong and it was clear that Apocalypse came out of it as giving the biggest scare.

On our visit to Alton Towers , we had fully intended to test Nemesis. However, the night before the shoot, Alton Towers informed us that Nemesis was experiencing some sort of technical problem and had been shut for maintenance. Due to the tightness of our Production schedule and the proximity to transmission, we had no choice but to choose an alternative ride at Alton Towers . We chose Air as it offered similar visual cues to Nemesis and, by lying riders flat, offered a different type of experience.

We did do our research properly - as we always do - but I do accept your point that we maybe shouldn?????????t have termed all the rides as 'roller coasters'.

Thank you again for taking the time to write to us and I hope you continue to watch and enjoy the show.

Ewan

^ While I agree that it was a stupid mistake to make, the writer probably thought that you were incredibly geeky for spending the time to write him a letter on that alone. :P Oh well. I still don't understand why they would choose Air over Oblivion though. Visual cues? How can you get more visual than staring down into a smoke filled pit!

that is very true, but i'm thinking that ai was closest, and oblivion is rather short. Still would have made it a hell of a lot better than "ooooooh AIR, yeah it sucks but we're gonna put it there because it's a rollercoaster" I mean, come on! one of his levels was lower than when he was simply normal, how ridiculous is that? they should have realised this and quickly gone for oblivion.
