So I'm making a small rocket coaster with the main focus on theming. I'm trying to make it a little bit of a mix between Kanonen for trackwork and Black Mamba for Theming. Its flowing together really nicely so far. Hopefully I will actually finish this track [:p]. You can check out the progress right here - http://www.nolimitsdevcenter.net/p2040 . Thanks for comments. For the bit of track there it looks pretty good. The footers are especially nice.

The footer connectors look like they need some poly reducing. They look good, but its alot of wasted polys. Unless youll skimp elsewhere.

Each whole footer is only 5 poly's. I dont see any way to reduce it more...

No Im talking about the fins connected to each support thats part of the footer.

Theres at least 3 per (2 top and one for each side) not to mention the plate that sits on which is 10 at best. There looks to be 8 fins which is (8*3)+10+5=39 polys per footer. Times that by the average of probably 1.5 footers per support and thats 58.5 per support. It just seems like it would add up in a hurry and take away polygons that could be used elsewhere.

They look splendid Ive just never gotten into using them because Id rather put detail elsewhere. So I suppose its a matter of personal preference.

I don't think there's a problem with using that many polies on a footer. I've done a similar thing on quite a few of mine with a fair bit of 3ds around and had no problems with fps being much lower than usual.

But you had very little else - which is when it works. I was only stating that because if he goes with a true Mummy style ride apart from the track, hes going to need a ton of other polygons around and in the ride.

You just have to balance where you stick your detail - thats all.

True, I didn't know if he was planning on using a lot more 3ds. If that's the case, I'd say maybe flatten the fins, make them have only 2 polies, one for each side, and perhaps make the part where the steel joins to the concrete a texture instead of two different cuboids. If all that's optimized it shouldn't be too bad.

Yea Ive been trying to work on that. I dont have the skills to make a texture, So I'm trying different things.

The trackwork is almost dont, Im about 3/4 the way through. I'm having problems with the heartliner, almost enough to just ditch it and go by hand like usual. [;)] We will see

Tunnels look great. My only thought is that in this screenshot: http://www.nolimitsdevcenter.net/i14413 the base of the tunnel would look better with a different texture to the rest ofthe grass. I think it'd make it look more like a proper trench rather that just a lowered portion of the ground.

lol, yes. Just at a point on the track used to complete the circuit. I wouldnt have mistakes like that on a ride I spent this much time on. ;)

Ive taken Real's advice and updated the footers, they were starting to bog down my FPS way too much. Ive now got a texture for most of the footer detail.

New shot of trench with bottom (Thanks Wingover)
