I don't see how this would be a bad idea at all. If B&M went for it, they would of course find a way to make it decidedly more boring than X2 because it's B&M, but they would definitely be able to pull it off in a more smooth and comfortable fashion instead of the experience feeling like you're getting love in the ass by Alan himself.

This idea actually isn't too bad, but mix a drop tower and an observation tower into one, with the observation tower on top, they both lift, the drop tower drops, the the observation tower slowly comes back down (if you couldn't figure it out).
Basically replace the, erm, thing that lifts the drop tower with an observation tower.
