Read this knowing that I don't have the choice to switch to Zune or some other MP3 device. So before you make cracks about Apple/iTunes being the worst, realize that I KNOW; I just need help.

This happened just last night. I bought four songs from iTunes and downloaded one from this site. I tried putting them onto my iPod, and although I got a warning- "Jake's iPod" cannot be synced due to an error. -the songs ended up in the Music list of my iPod anyway. When I ejected my iPod, the songs weren't on it...

And on top of that, songs are skipping on my pod now. It's getting worse; every time I reset it, more and more songs are becoming inable to play on it (but work on iTunes perfectly).

First instinct was go to Apple Support online: The search did come up with some troubleshooting advice, but I couldn't exactly find a scenario that fit my situation. What I would prefer is a help email address (couldn't find one, if someone knows of one, please tell). Then I've registered onto to like two Apple forums (losers) and posted my situation. Both seem inactive, so I'm skeptical about finding any help there.

I searched Google plenty. All it tells me is to update iPod, update iTunes, and then restore iPod. I updated my nano to 1.1.2, and now the mother effing iTunes needs to be updated before it can even read my iPod. So I go to download iTunes 7.6, but NOW I need Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2). That seems to be the only smooth download...

I have XPSP2, and try downloading iTunes 7.6 again (I can't fricking keep up with iTunes updating every damn day, or else this probably wouldn't be happening...), and this:

"The Windows Installer could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode..."

(could I please have dangerous mode!?)

"...or if Windows Installer is not correctly installed" (how could I install the installer without my installer working?).

So...those of you that care, I'd really like some help. Not even this freak of nature Bill Gates humper could help me.

as much as it sucks .. i'd say that any technology that small, no matter how fashionable it is, is likely to be a source of trouble.. that said i'd simply suggest buying the cheapest mp 3 player you can get that uses regular batteries..it's very likely that the battery on your thingy is not charging enough to provide the juice needed to control all thole little logic circuits that go into the memory and digital playback.
of course it might not look as "cool" as a "real" ipod, but it'll probabally last longer , and if it doesnt at least it's easy to replace,

It's not a battery problem, I know it. The battery lasts plenty long and has for almost a year. I've never dropped it or anything.

I'm confident that a simple hit of the restore button will suffice, so all I truly need help with is how to download iTunes with those problems stated...

Or an email address to a support group...

I would say for this kind of trouble, your best option is to take the iPod to an Apple store and get an appointment at the genius bar. Explain the problems you are having and those people can help you out. This problem is something you can't fix on your own.

I have never had a problem with an iPod. I've had 4 different ones since 2003 and not once have I experienced a problem until now.

Woodie Man is right. I'll just have to get one of the Apple guys to do it.

Which iPod did you say it was?

iPods are built with a lithium ion battery (Liion), which usually only lasts for about 150-200 cycles (charges/discharges). It is very possible that your iPods battery is well on its way to battery heaven..

I'd say no...No way have I charged it more than 100 times in 9 months.

And this problem has been fixed. A restore did the job.

Good good, then it was your system. Just be careful though, your battery is getting closer to the end of its life.
