^^^ While the sheer number of passengers per cycle is really big, keep in mind they just didn't have the same safety precautions or laws in place as they do now. I doubt there was a ride op checking restraints, and hell, the ride may not have even fully stopped while loading. Of course just having that many people per ride means pretty long loading times just because, all I'm saying is I doubt all of the OTHER safety-related things that add to loading times today were commonplace back then.
