You'll find that's standard practice. When you turn a computer off without shutting it down first, it leaves all sorts of file handles open, and doesn't bother parking the HDD. This can cause HDD errors, so windows will happily run a disk check when you boot it up again.

And last but not least, don't diss Microsoft for this one - if you check out the message source, you'll see the email actually comes form a lithuanian address. Plenty of nasty types in .lt, I can tell ya
It's all too easy to spoof an email, hell if anyone wants an email from bill.gates@microsoft.com saying he's leaving all his money to you, just let me know
