Water World 07/17/06

Well, here in the west it's been quite hot lately, so what better to do than head to a water park.

The day began as most days do. I woke up at 9:15am to get ready to leave for the park at 10am, finally leaving later than planned at 10:15. Still though, not bad timing. With two stops for friends, everyone was in the car and the drive to the park began. 45 minutes later and everyone was inside the park. Before going further, I would like to say that Water World is built in a hilly area and certainly uses these hill to an advantage. Many rides are built right into the hills including the first one I went on.

After getting a locker and applying sun protection, the first ride I hit was The Ragin' Colorado. My friend and I waited for maybe three minutes before getting a raft and rolling it uphill a few hundred feet to the entry pool for the river. While being a pretty tame ride, the Colorado was still fun and got everything rolling for the rest of the day.

The next ride was also a river type ride, this one being the Cimmaron River. It follows the same pattern as the other rides where riders must carry or roll their tube to the start of the river up the hill. This river differs from the Colorado because at the entry pool there are two river choices. I chose the the Cimmaron River, but the Thunder River was also an option. The ride is more exciting than the Colorado as it features a nice helix. After the Cimmaron, it was time for me to try a ride I hadn't been on before-The Storm. Oh, and by the way, the wait here was also minimal, being three minutes or so.

The Storm is basically a very large enclosed tube slide with dark purple tube and entry/exit pools. I hadn't been on it before so I decided it would be interesting to give it a go. It works the same way as the other rides mentioned before. All in all it was pretty boring. Some lame light and sound effects inside, but one cool moment of complete darkness. At the end is a nice little waterfall. These more "themed" rides tend to have longer lines and this one was 15 minutes or so.

A quick break for a couple of waves in Thunder Bay, the larger of two wave pools at Water World, and it was back to the other stuff.

Next up was another tame attraction, this one a two person tube slide called Tandemonium. The wait was nothing and the slide was enjoyable. I rode in the front of the tube and, as Tandemonium is two slides went on the one with the lower wait time.

After a lunch break for pizza, soda, and some snacks brought into the park it was time for more slides and time in Thunder Bay.

Another new thing for me was the Bermuda Triangle. There are three slides all coming off the same tower. The center one is straight with a very steep drop. Bermuda Triangle's left and right slides are mirror images, both featuring underground 360 degree helices. I took the left slide.

Tortuga Run was the next thing I went on. It's like a lazy river except it has some downward falls and some pools. Nothing much to speak of and probably not worth the 15 minutes I waited for it.

Everyone met up again after Tortuga for a bit of ice cream. It was at this point that I heard that the power went out, leaving only two attractions open. The power was restored relatively quickly and because of the outage I got lucky and ended up on the fourth tube of the next ride, Zoomerang.

It's a water half pipe with some great air on the first drop over and a fun splash down with water shooting up from the holes in the tube for the riders.

The lazy river was empty and gave a bit of time to relax.

A speed slide called White Lightning and another run on the right slide of the Bermuda Triangle filled time with some thrills.

Screamin' Mimi was the next ride, with a tracked sled shooting down a hill into a water pool which the sled skims across. A lot of people made it pretty far on their sleds, but not me and my friend. The sled turned and flipped and we didn't make it half as far as other people had. As each sled holds only two people at most, the line was 15 minutes. Somehow when we bailed, my friend hurt his finger and we went to the first aid station. The rest of the day was spent searching for lost glasses and riding a single person tube. It was the longest wait of the day being 25 minutes. I wouldn't have gone on it execpt that I was trying to find the lost glasses.

Overall, it was a fun day with minimal waits and lots of fun. No pictures because I didn't want to bring the camera to a water park. And as I'm writing this, I just noticed I have a nice watch ring on my arm from where the sun didn't hit me.

Wow, IRONIC! I just took a trip there probably about 5 days ago because my family had to go to the Denver car auction so I took my little brother and sister. Water World is absolutly amazing! I love Voyage, perfect ride. Im glad you had a good time and the review was awesome [;)]

Oh sounds like you had a lot of fun. I will be making my way out to Denver in a about a week and I am going to Water World. I hope that the lines are about the length of what you saw, cause I don't like long lines for water slides.

Really nice TR! Sounds like they have pretty nice slides there...I need to get to Schlitterbahn before summer's over!
