There are some movies you watch that bring up 1 question. "What the @#$% is going on here?" For yours truly it's The Cell, The 12 Monkies, and Suspira. What raises this question in you?

Donnie Darko, confusing but also my favorite movie aside from Fight Club, which is also pretty weird.

After Hours

Brazil

The Fisher King

Fight Club

Magnolia

The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead

The Butterfly Effect DVD (The DVD has an entirely different ending which makes the film worth watching, I saw the DVD first, then when I saw the theatrical release ending I realized why the film failed, it SUCKED)

A Clockwork Orange

Snatch

Trainspotting

Kung Foo Hustle

Baron Munchausen (anything Terri Gilliam really)

Shadow of the Vampire

-- for starters

Naturally as weird films I can't say what you'll think of them. Research first to see if they interest you.

I couldn't remember exactly so I looked it up at www.ruinedendings.com: "Evan sacrifices his love for Kayleigh by going back to the memory of first meeting her as children, and scaring her away so that Kayleigh never became part of his life, and she grew up happy and successful-though now they never knew each other."

It doesn't add that the final scene has Evan, grown up and in a suit walking through Wall Street, seeing a happy and healthy Kayleigh walking past and turns to follow her. Happy Ever After everyone!

I don't mind happy endings really. But this whole picture was pointing to the ending on the DVD and removing it destroyed the film completely.

***** SPOILER *****

The whole thing with him watching the video of his own birth and his subsequent sacrifice is not even hinted at in the theatrical version.

Zazu, you listed some pretty far out there movies... Magnolia is probably the one you listed that I just did not get at all.
The Butterfly Effect was dumb, no matter what version you watch.

--some more out there movies--

?????????Crash (the 2005 one) - was out there but good (and not all that confusing)
?????????Crash (the 1996 one) - was out there and not really that good
?????????Cabin Boy - why this movie was ever made is just beyond me
?????????Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Out there but entertaining
?????????The Royal Tenenbaums - Was that supposed to be funny?
?????????The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - As odd as ^ but funnier
?????????Eyes Wide Shut - I should have made sure they were closed
?????????Adaptation - I didn't
?????????Being John Malkovich - As if he wasn't odd enough.

There are more, but I will let others have some fun.

torch: Funny, I was reading your list and thought "I forgot Being John Malkovich", and then there it was. Cool.

I think you had to be pretty soaked in Christian dogma to get Magnolia. I knew enough, but only just, to know what it was aiming for. And it was LONG.

More:

American Beauty

Metropolis

OOH, OOH, High Plains Drifter! How could I forget that. That movie kicked my ass just two years ago.

Big Fish

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The Eighth Dimension

Being There

A Boy and his Dog

Brother From Another Planet

City of Lost Children

Hero

A Touch Of Evil

Waking Ned Devine (this was great)

Bill and Ted were covered and the two movies are:

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey

ZY - I while I am dripping with christian dogma, I do not see it. It was a bunch of sigular stories, focused around 2 dying men, all with a game show as a common factor. I understood the relationship of the stories, and the issues of morality that the stories highlight, my only problem was this: It was like someone made The Passion of the Christ and Life of Brian and combined them into the same movie, except it was not funny.

BTW, you listed some more good ones.

"It was like someone made The Passion of the Christ and Life of Brian and combined them into the same movie, except it was not funny."

That's a pretty good description, actually. Although the 'frog cam' made me laugh.

Maybe the fact that "I knew enough, but only just" was the key. Besides, I'm not deffending it as being a great film. It was decent, I'm glad I watched it, but I don't own it and I'm not going to go out of my way to see it again.

Hmmm: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

I just found this site: http://www.oddfilms.com/

I just watched I Heart Huckabees, and that movie brought out a few "WTF"s in me. I suppose once you go through psychology classes it would make more sense.
