Sums up how people view music nowadays, really. I'd be far more impressed by a good oboeist than a good guitarist or drummer if that's the motive. It's always good to have a more traditional instrument. Why do you think it sucks?

I really dont like the sound of the oboe. To me, its really annoying. I just dont like it..the way you're supposed to play it, the sound, the keys, etc.

But just my opinion, a lot of people probably love the oboe.

You're just a quitter. Guitar and drums are way easier than oboe.

Everyone seems to be playing drums! Boring!
I can play a bit of everything [except guitar i cant stretch my fingers]
but anything else if I like it i'll just teach myself a bit. I play keyboard or piano a lot more than anything else [8D]

Oh well, doesnt matter to me. Its not about how easy they are. The oboe can be the easiest thing in the world and i still wouldn't like it.

Um...how do you figure? It's not a sport, it's subjected judging. #1 my ass--you can't distinguish one better than the other unless you're head to head and you haven't been head to head with every single one in the country. Plus, even then that wouldn't be accurate because judges rate lower in the morning, higher when they eat, and even higher at the end.

So really, you are just in a high school band in the country. There is no true way do distinguish who is #1, #2, etc. Sure you can tell who is good and bad, but not the top in the country.

BTW I play tuba and yes we rule the world and no I don't consider myself a loser because I have more scholarships than 99% of the sport people at my school who even got anything.

Now that I've researched these Grammy people, I've got to say that it's not a big honor to be selected as best school by a company that sponsers music camps which I have never heard of.

Not to be a pompous dick or anything, but play something like Schindler's List, Sensemaya, or Right of Spring and get back to me on this. I asked what incredible music you guys played, so lets see some instead of sending me a stupid paragraph on wikipedia in a PM that says you won an award.

I have been playing the piano for about 6 years, and have gotten my school's "Best Pianist" award 5 years in a row.

Ahh the key to being a band geek, talking about how great your High School(or middle school) band is.

My old High School (Western HS) won the national Bands of America title for Marching Band 4 times we've won our state championship 8 times, with several visits in the top 5. Sadly the band started a down period 1 year before I became a freshman and only went to state once. My old section leader played Lead Trumpet for the Blue Devils for 2 years. And several others have gone on to the Glassman, Caveliers, Phantom Regiment, and the Madison Scouts.

We were a talented bunch.

Lol, I hope this doesnt turn into band bashing. [:p]

I played the steel Drums and was in the 2005 rose parade. I played for 4 years (high school). I would buy my own but the specific type of steel pan that i played costs over $6000

I play the drums as well, about 5 years now. I've got a cheap mapex, but GREAT paiste cymbals, a 2002 heavy hihat, line 15" mellow crash, 2002 12" splash, and a 20" innovations ride. Anybody heard that ride already? It's really my dream sound.

I've been playing the piano for about 8 years, and singing in a band for about three years now.

ive played piano as long as i can remmber guitar (3years) drums(3 years) can pick up a base, i can have a go at most things except the violin which i think is impossible [;)] most people are attracted by drums i think because it makes allot of noize and it can sound quite impressive after a short while of playing they arnt the hardest instrument to learn how to play. ive leart because it is use full to be able to play any instrument you are given in a band.
