Um...how do you figure? It's not a sport, it's subjected judging. #1 my ass--you can't distinguish one better than the other unless you're head to head and you haven't been head to head with every single one in the country. Plus, even then that wouldn't be accurate because judges rate lower in the morning, higher when they eat, and even higher at the end.

So really, you are just in a high school band in the country. There is no true way do distinguish who is #1, #2, etc. Sure you can tell who is good and bad, but not the top in the country.

BTW I play tuba and yes we rule the world and no I don't consider myself a loser because I have more scholarships than 99% of the sport people at my school who even got anything.

Or, look us up in an encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_High_School

The award is chosen annonamously by a board of some of the worlds top musical authorities. This is the first time ever that the winner was an unnanomous decision. Also, the brand new rules are conformed around us, now allowing bands to compete and win only three years in a row; we have won the grammy-gold (top seven) twice in a row and now, the next year , the grammy signatre school, #1. That is an unheard of event and is highly praised by every single member of the board. It's as close to a concreet decision that you can get with 'subjected judging'.

Btw, our school's orchestra also got #1 in their categoory, even with our school board director who keeps cutting funds to our school's music programs.

We also march, we're not bad, but we haven't goe into a marching comp. So big kudos to Coaster indavidual, I bet marching was even more riggerous when you where in shool.

However, my parents feel that guitar is taking away from my school. My grades are going down because of my teachers, honestly, I'm not one to make excuses, and she won't even let me buy it with my own money. So hopefully, I can crack out the end of the school year with decent enough grades so she considers it.

Yes, i've seen that arrangement on one of these threads before, and it looks pretty sweet. Couple more cymbals, maybe.

TC, me and you could make beautiful music together....if your wife would let us ;)

I mean, we'd be making a lot of noise.

Seems a tad excessive TCon, but I'm sure you enjoy it.

Not at all Woodie, it actually adds to the visual part of the performance as well as allowing for different sounds to fill the spaces. There are several other cymbals packed away as well as one more floor tom that I just do not have use for at the moment. Basically, the full set of cymbals provides more of a visual as I have different places to go, rather than always hitting the same cymbal, every time. While that worked for masters like Buddy Rich:

I am more of a Tommy Aldridge/Neil Peart stylist where I am all over the place during my playing and it allows me to add in stick throws, twirls, etc, which again, add to the visual.

I almost forgot to mention in my orig post, this coming September makes 16 years of drumming for me. Of course, I have played about every type of percussion instrument as well, tympani being my favorite.

I am a drummer also. I have a 6-piece Pearl Export Radical series acoustic drumset, with an extra Pearl Chad Smith signature snare drum. This is my second kit, my first being a nice CB Drums beginner set that I got when I was 10 years old (I had that for 3 years, then got this set 3 years ago). Cymbals: 14" Zildjian Z Custom Mastersound hi-hats, 16" Zildjian A Custom Fast Crash, 20" Zildjian ZXT Titanium Medium Ride, 9" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Splash, 18" Sabian AA Metal X China, and an 18" Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash. I also have a Latin Percussion cowbell and a Latin Percussion tambourine. Hardware from various brands including Pearl and Pacific.

So, as you can see, I have a mid-line drumset with all top of the line cybmbals besides the ride (which I am planning to replace with a 20" Zildjian A Ping Ride). I am also planning to replace my set with a Pearl Reference set some time in the future.

TCon, that looks like a great set. I've always wanted to buy an electronic set and fuse it with my acoustic set to accomplish some really cool effects, like Neil Peart and Danny Carry.

Well Real, good luck with that. Guitar is a fun instrument to learn. I'm still learning new stuff about it and I've been playing for over two years.

I used to. Also used to have a voice range of 4.5 octaves (most of that was screaming, but controlled screaming :) ). Now I don't sing, but I still have a range of 4 octaves (and a bit lower pitched now that im growing). Otherwise, I really was never that good of a singer, just...sort of...a singer...ya...now it's all about french horn, which i r0x0r at. sad i have the crappiest band program at my school.

but no matter how many cymbols you have, electric drumming is wrong and fake and NO!

I got a question for all you drummers:

What would be a good replacement set of heads for basically all my drums (both batter and reso)? I've actually got my snare all worked out, so thats good, but I'm still in need of some good tom heads. I'm lookin for somethin warm and dry for those. For the bass, I'm lookin for somethin that's just normal sounding.

Smer - As you can see I use a standard Remo Black Dot on my bass drum. It has a very fat sound and can be adjusted for tight bounce without much effort -- depending on the sound you need. I use Remo Pinstripe on all the toms with no bottom head (custom made, these are NOT concert toms). Pinstripe heads are VERY warm sounding and after a year or so of wear can really give you a totally new depth of sound.

As far as electronic drums I used to feel the same way as you, until I learned (take a note here) that I had to ADMIT that I could do more with electronics than I could with acoustics. However, your chops have to back it up. For example when I am doing paradiddles, it sounds like a piece of paper being torn, that is how fast and tight my single stroke is. When you get that fast, it does not matter which type of set you use, your crap is tight and others take note.

Real - Get to baking:
