What started you on coasters. THe full story.


Ever since i saw a coaster when i was like 2 i wuz totaly obsessed. I would like freak out when i herd we were going to kings dominion or BGE. I remember just being scared to death to go on grizzly but i tryed it and loved it. Same with most coasters until i tried lochness monster and Appolos chariot. Wasnt scared until i tried a launch. It took me years to get on hypersonic after that. Now after moving to new england and trying superman i love them more. Dont wory i visit enough to virginia so i did get to ride dominator 3 times. (the line is fast and it has none at night)


So your stories:

1 word Nemesis! when i was 4 i remember the Nemesis advert, yes i wasnt old enough to go on it but mum took me there just to see it hehe, after that i was obbsesed then came RCT2 which really boosted thngs and then in 1998 i went back to alton towers and went on my very first coaster which was ofcourse Nemesis, Follewed by Oblivion!

Same with alpengeist for me i got on it in 2nd grade when i had to be like 2 inches taller but still that g force on that realy tightens the harness on that.

My family made annual trips to an amusement park. I like the three coasters there and once RCT came out, I did some research...bumped into NoLimits and then rcdb.com. Only to find CC.com and TPR also. The rest is history

i loved roller coasters as soon as i saw them i loved them, as far back as i can remember i have always loved to look at and ride them, NL was more of something i stumbled upon while on youtube, and am happy to have.

For me it was RCT2. I got it for Xmas in 2002 and played around with it for a few months. After a while i noticed there was a "real parks" tab in the menu. I clicked on it and started looking at the Six Flags parks only to find out i lived 30 minutes away from Six Flags Great Adventure. I started becoming obsessed i wanted to go there so badly. I memorized every stat of every coaster on their website. My parents ended up suprising me by taking me there on August 4th 2003. They told me we were going somewhere else and i freaked when i saw the big Six Flags sign. I rode GASM and that was it for me. Ive been obsessed since. Ive also found things like this site (but i found WWS) TPR, and RCDB. I found other things like NoLimits and Scream Machines. I also started researching other parks and lets just say, here i am.

Growing up in alaska you don't get to ride coasters that are taller than six feet. I've always liked them so when we moved down here in like 02 or 03 it wasn't on my mind till mom drove me and my sister up to denver to visit family. She decided that we should go to elitches because me and my sis hadn't been to a real amusment park. I then got obssed with coasters and the rest is the same as everyone else's story.

when i was younger, around like 4 or 5, my parents took me to a fair where I saw my first roller coaster, then my godmother tried to convince me to go on one, but I was way to scared. When I was about 9, RCT came out, and that really got me started on roller coasters. then i went on one when i was about 11 and i was hooked.

I was always fascinated by them just for the way they felt. Even when i was 8 and i wasn't tall enough to ride anything at CP, iron dragon was about it. and that ride alone was enough to spark my interest. then i got hooked on the RCT series, but i was always pissed that you couldn't customize anything that much. Then i stumbled upon NL when i was a freshman in HS. For the past 4 years since then, I've been absolutely hooked.

I dont really remember a time i wasnt into coasters. Riding my first roller coaster in fact happens to be my very first memory. It was Hornet at Flambards and i was just 4 i believe! Most of you will have no idea what that coaster is, so heres a quick clip:



Its a zierer coaster, and it was an absolute beats reaching heights of 35 foot at 26mph! HAHAHAH! But it still worked, and got me hooked. Apparently i didnt move from the ride all day, and i've never known NOT being interested in coasters. The first BIG coaster i went on though was probably twin looper at American Adventure, a terribly rough Soquet looper relocated from lightwater valley:

I was definately far from tall enough to ride, being about 6-7 at the time, but American Advneture wasnt exactly strict on height requirements. At least they didnt seem it, or were totally incapable of noticing small children riding one of their biggest coasters.

Can't really remember that far back. But I used to draw them way back when I was too little to ride. Then I moved from Mosselbay to JHB where the first weekend was my taste of GRC. White Lightnin????????? was already transported and opened there as the Golden Loop. I was stunned with excitement after my first ride which was also my first coaster.

I drew the same Schwarzkopf loop design over and over in different locations etc????????? One of which looks very similar to Revolution but was drawn before I even knew the ride exists.

Even got myself that dull looping k?????????nex Roller Coaster model etc.

First trip to Cedar Point. Then I got RCT1. It all snowballed from there.

for me it took, most important: Goliath, walibi world.

also Space Mountain Mission 2 Paris,
Rock 'n Rollercoaster Paris
and Big Thunder Mountain, also in paris.

after that i went looking for information in the internet and i did find all sorts of stuff.
also, RCT1 and RCT3 helped a bit. then i found NL. And after that, CoasterCrazy.com!

I used to be scared of rollercoasters up until I was 12. i'd refuse to go on them.

that is, until, my trip to IoA when my sister forced me on to the Hulk (oh man you should've seen me, i was about to poop myself). after that it was love.

RCT and then Nemesis

i think the hornet was my first coster, but i can't really remember that far back. It may hav been buffalo, but i may never know, oh well, I am so hooked and I'm happy because i was predicted top of the class in engineering, so fingers crossed i get it!

my trip to SFKK. rode Chang. that is all that it took.
i had rct3 for about a year, then i came upon NL on a youtube video. left rct3 because of the "mean old restrictions" and got NL. haven't been able to put it down since. and thats more than a year ago.

First I was a train buff as a kid. I grew up in northern California but both of my grandmothers lived in the L.A. area so I had at least two trips to Disneyland a year (and Knotts, Sea World and the San Diego Zoo) since I was an infant. I don't remember my fist trip to Disneyland, it's always been there. I didn't care much for the roller coasters as a kid, the Matterhorn was noisy and scary and Space Mountain was completely hidden in an ominous looking building. But then tragedy struck, when I was 10 they tore out my favorite ride and replaced it 2 years later with a roller coaster! I just had to ride it, it was still a Mine Train after all and it was beautifully themed.

Well, I fell in love with Thunder Mountain, and the rest is history.

This goes a long way to describing my thoughts on themeing. To my preadolescent mind a coaster was themed, I'd never seen anything else. When I first went to California's Great America (then Marriott's Great America ) when I was 13 and saw the Whizzer (a Schwarzkopf extended jumbo jet) I was startled to see it running even though it was obviously not finished yet! It looked naked yet interesting with all it's superstructure exposed and I did my best to study it before they covered it all up with theming, which obviously they never did.

Remember this was back in the '70 before the Internet and RCDB when the roller coaster resources available to a prepubescent kid were exceedingly limited. To this day I still can't make a coaster without ANY theming or custom landscaping. I've tried, it won't happen.
