Is there any way we could just keep the highest-rated ones? That would surely delete like 95% of the bulk while still keeping almost all of the ones that people actually care about.

Anyway, yeah, I'm mostly fine with a complete wipe as long as I can download stuff first.

Agree??????????????????Clear the track that rating is under 6 point or less than 100-150 Downloads

I'm probably biased because I have a fair few old tracks with good ratings that I'm still quite proud of, but I'd prefer option 2. Not just for my own tracks, but because so many great coasters would be lost. I'm still finding amazing ones I missed while I was gone.

Perhaps there could be a way to save a selection of the most popular tracks? A "legacy" section in whatever new exchange we have. Maybe have a big voting period before the new site is up where we choose like the top 5 tracks of each style of coaster?

It's a bit difficult because this site was very important to me a few years ago as an escape from what was happening in my reality, and the tracks I had posted at that time are kind of a mini legacy to that. It's a little bit pathetic, I know, but the comments and ratings on those tracks are some of the things that kept me going through a very difficult period of my life, so to lose that would be hard (as I do look back through them from time to time).

However, in the interest of moving forward, Option 1 can only be the best thing for the future of the site, so; somewhat reluctantly, I voted for Option 1.

I voted option 2. But I would definitely change my mind to option 1 if we could actually save the best rated tracks. Say >6.5 or 7. Maybe more considering that a lot of stupid raters overrate a track at a 7 whereas it deserves a 5.

And if there are any good tracks that deserve 8's that hasn't been "massively" downloaded and/or rated, then I don't think we should keep them.
See how hard it would be to keep the good unrated tracks: go have fun in trying to find them all, then to see if they actually deserve to be kept. That would be hard to operate.

Conclusion: OPTION 2 unless we have an archive with best rated tracks then I say clean it up. [:)]

If a new site is made, how about giving us the power, on the new site, to delete a track we upload. I've uploaded a lot of bad tracks I would like to delete if I could.

I like the legacy thing. I'm fine with wiping the site clean but there is a little bit of history that needs to be preserved at the same time.

Take for instance Bobcoaster. He most likely wont re-upload his stuff. It would be a big bummer to lose his entire catalog. And what if Wing-over dies again?

^Find one roller coaster by Wing-Over that isn't in the files of at LEAST one active member of this community.

Same with Bobcoaster I would assume. I have all of his works I'm sure...

Then again, this is something that would be beneficial with the archived exchanged.

I don't mind so much losing the whole exchange as I've downloaded all the tracks that I actually want. My issue is the "technical jargon" as you put it. Can't you find a few cheap hard drives and stick the entire exchange on them? Or maybe just the best of the best? Put out a forum topic where people list the tracks they would like to see saved? It just seems to me that it can't be that hard to do...

I wouldn't imagine a separate location for the exchange to be difficult. He did say it was a possibility. That would be an awesome option 3 lol.

Have users save all of the best tracks and then get a topic going on the forum where the 'cool-designs' go if the original uploader cannot be found.
Then users can't rate the tracks but can still have access to them.

Also, Voted 1, site needs an upgrade soon.

EDIT: How about an option for uploaders if they don't want a track to be rated? And a 'hidden' option so the track can be shared out with a private link?

You know that would result in people uploading "unfinished" tracks to the exchange, right? Sure, we won't have to see them, but I predict that far more people would upload their "testing" tracks this way and flood CC's servers.

And they could be sent to testers easily. Also would work as a good back up system. Private track option for premium only maybe?

I suppose the premium only feature would prevent what I mentioned...I like it.

I want to say I wouldn't mind the conversion, but like so many others I did work hard to earn the ratings and comments I've gotten on my tracks over the years. Maybe at the very least, if the ratings aren't saved, (and I know some people won't like it) have the option to include your average track rating for tracks over X number of ratings under your avatar for the forum or in your information for the exchange, and the ranking of that average in relation to others on the site? Maybe have it so the user can toggle that option, with it on by default for the top 100 and off by default for the rest. That way if someone doesn't like it, whether they're in the top 100 or bottom 100, they can simply turn it off. It's kinda along the lines of the "legacy" ideas here, and it means that all one's hard work from before will still be recognized. Just a thought...like I said, I know that while some will like the idea, others won't. Don't skewer me for it! haha

EDIT: if it were to continue to collect data after the conversion, it could even add to the competitive aspect of No Limits coaster design, which I enjoy myself. It's a good motivator to me...a good reason for me to say "hmm, this is probably decent enough, but I know people care about this extra detail so I think I'll improve it," with the result being better tracks all around. One could also impliment a graph showing ratings (one line for each category, B T O/A, and one for the overall average) with respect to time. That graphic would clearly show both personal growth over the years and areas that need improvement.

^I love that idea. It's not like it matters if people like the idea or not. Some people who have worked hard get ratings and some people don't, not like everyone likes that either ;P

I think on the new site, low quality uploads should be deleted as seen fit by the staff. I mean, sure first time coasters should be allowed and the such, but these persistent crappy uploads like what we have been going through for the past x-number of years... well... as seen fit.

Really? Are we worried about losing ratings? Just re-upload the tracks, see how they do now. Let go of it guys. Seriously. Its not that important. If you really hold onto those that closely, you need to re-evaluate whats important in life.

Just re-upload. This is sort of like a company needing to downsize to stay in business. You need to make some hard decisions for the future of a product/company/website. Just wipe it, start clean. Re-upload your rides. Its pretty simple.

If you MUST know what you had, take a screenshot. Print it out, hang it on your wall.

Yes Real, because I clearly have nothing else important to me in life, so I must attach too much importance to ratings simply because I said I'd like to keep them in some form. Good rationale.
