Ahh, I saw the prototype car in an episode of American Chopper on Disc. Channel. It looked a bit bulky with all those camera's on the roof and accelerating and braking didn't go as smoothly as it should be. But it is a good start! It really avoided anything smoothly.
I'm pretty sure you're talking about the one that uses algorithms to let the car determine where the road is via a set of cameras. The driverless cars they're producing direct themselves based on a series of sensors embedded into the road and a network that makes each car's position known to every car on the road. There are no cameras involved. Basically the cars just talk to each other to calculate speed, braking, etc.
I really hope that this would be mostly in big cities and urban areas because I love driving. The only setback (and the biggest) to where I live is that most of the drivers here are absolute morons.
