Ahh, I saw the prototype car in an episode of American Chopper on Disc. Channel. It looked a bit bulky with all those camera's on the roof and accelerating and braking didn't go as smoothly as it should be. But it is a good start! It really avoided anything smoothly.

Probably a good idea since people are too preoccupied to actually DRIVE their car like talking on the cell phone, adjusting the radio, watching DVD's reading the paper, sleeping, etc.

If it was law you wouldn't have a choice. Which is the way i can imagine it going. Sure it may take ages for these types of cars to fully be brought in, but for a system like that to work correctly and safely every car would have to drive itself, meaning you wouldn't be able to Gazag.

So in other words, it wouldnt matter because the only people in the UK who would want that kind of system in place would be old women with sand in thier vaginas. So we need not worry

but that would be pretty cool... you could take a nap when youre on a long distance trip [:)] it would also be kinda interesting if nobody drove their own car (for several reasons which i wont say) [approve]

Im wouldn't mind, considering that I can't stand driving. I think it sucks. I would have anyone drive me around anyday. Also, what would they do in case of an accident. I could most definately see a lawsuit because of a failed computer chip or something, and GM has not been the most "reliable" company by any means. So many things happen with GM cars it's rediculous.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about the one that uses algorithms to let the car determine where the road is via a set of cameras. The driverless cars they're producing direct themselves based on a series of sensors embedded into the road and a network that makes each car's position known to every car on the road. There are no cameras involved. Basically the cars just talk to each other to calculate speed, braking, etc.

I really hope that this would be mostly in big cities and urban areas because I love driving. The only setback (and the biggest) to where I live is that most of the drivers here are absolute morons.

There is a good thing to this: if the cars are driving theoretically perfect lines, that means that they can go faster. Also, it means no more freaking rush-hour traffic and jams due to accidents. Quick and efficient travel. Granted, I also wish they'd freaking hurry up with the flying cars. They've been invented already... why doesn't somebody mass produce them already?
