Actually it would be large corporations, who feel that any given site is capable of being a medium for piracy of their content or is pirating their content..

The Government has better things to do, like steal your money. :)

SOPA is a terrible, terrible thing. I support the shutdown 100%, even if it means I"ll have to go without internet for a day.

Is the whole internet actually going down for that day? Doubt it, besides, I don't mind since I have a ton of other things I can do.

Not what he meant, but a lot of major websites that will be affected will shut down that day to protest the bill, I dont know if the big boys like google and youtube, facebook, twitter, etc. will shut down to protest, but they are certainly against the bill and it would definitely help if they were involved. One of the major pushers of the SOPA bill is Viacom, (nickelodeon, comedy central, paramount, etc.) who has been arch enemies with youtube for years, a lot of the crappy changes that google gets blamed for making to youtube are actually from viacom continuously trying to sue youtube, and changes being forced to be made, and not long ago they tried to shut down yt completely.

Apparently Google will be using its home page to protest and spread awareness of SOPA.

Wikipedia is shutting down. The whole thing is pretty crazy though I don't think Piracy is on SOPA's mind (I am aware I addressed SOPA as a unit). In my opinion, everyone is out to make money for themselves. Unless SOPA feels as though they can make money by stopping Piracy, there is a catch somewhere else.
I think the Obama Administration has their hands tied because if they support SOPA, the internet loses it's value. If they don't, Obama supports Piracy. I think the Obama Administration did a noble act by opposing SOPA, but claiming Piracy is a problem.

Though Obama "Believes" Piracy is hurting the economy. Piracy is the least of the economy's concern. If a small percentage of people went back to buying their music instead of Pirating it, the increase of cash flow will be negligible; there are bigger problems right now.

you do realize that congress is just going to revise SOPA they are not going to just drop it. CoasterCrazy is probably out of the clear but Youtube and Reddit are not just yet, they arent going to just drop this just like that.

You mean ''In the clear'', though you'd be wrong. CoasterCrazy.com could be considered an undesriable website due to simple you tubes of songs and other things that these acts SOPA and PIPA claim to protect.

My personal prediction is that SOPA will pass congress but get vetoed by Obama and then not pass with enough of a majority to become a law.

I don't think SOPA is getting anywhere the way it is.
SOPA wants to blame the website owners for copyrighted content the users of the site share/post. Coastercrazy might fall under this category considering the site revolves around RCT and NoLimits.

Regardless, SOPA won't make it anywhere because the humongous tech companies (Apple, Google, Facebook, Wiki, etc.) will put all the money they have against SOPA.

I think the shutdowns were wildly effective. Half of my friends didn't know what SOPA and PIPA were two days ago, yet today everyone's statuses and profile pictures were protesting it. Also, basically everyone I know participated in Google's petition against it.
