Breaking Point

by dcs221 · NoLimits Coaster · Sep 10th, 2007
Description
After months of design and development, I am pleased to present to you, the innovative yet effective, powerful yet nimble, LSM launched Intamin roller coaster, ??????Breaking Point!?????? This coaster sports one of the most incredible launches ever, catapulting riders to a maximum speed of 76 miles per hour, only to treat them to many diverse elements, including inversions, moments of scenery interaction, and maybe most importantly, coveted Intamin ejector (and floater) airtime! I invite you to come and be one of the first to experience the never-before-seen elements of this realistic LSM coaster design and my latest No Limits ride, Breaking Point.

I definately appreciate all the rates I got from CoasterSims, there were many informative, clear, and helpful comments. I don't know though... I think you guys can do better. I'll keep my opinions to myself, but I think you all should work together to rate more times than them within the first week, as a way of silently saying, "We're part of the better site!" [:)]

Information and Statistics:
Coaster Type: Intamin AG Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) Launched
Train Type: Intamin "Storm Runner style" Multi-Looping Trains with Over the Shoulder Restraints

Top Speed: 76 MPH
Height: 179 feet
Max Drop: 164 feet
Track Length: 3058 feet

Number of Inversions: 2

Max Positive G's: 5.1
Max Negative G's: -1.3

Max Lateral G's: 1.2
Average Lateral G's: Under .7

Track Design/Construction Method: 100% Elementary, Auto Heartline Generator (AHG), and Purgatorium.
Scenery: Designed and constructed by DCs221 with Google SketchUp, with exporting and other help from some of those listed in the ??????Acknowledgements?????? section.

Notes:
-If in doubt about the launch, please refer to my description in ??????Track Info?????? within the NL editor. I didn??????t want to spoil anything ;) so I included the launch description there instead of here.
-(IMPORTANT!) I was striving to feature a realistic length for the ride, and I feel I have balanced the generally short length of real Intamin rocket and other launched coasters with a thrilling layout. Please, when comparing this ride to others, try to compare to the length of real Intamin launched coasters, rather than comparing to the generally unrealistically long NL designs we??????ve all seen. Like most mid to large rocket coasters, this ride hits the brakes at a high speed to retain excitement all the way to the end. Basically, I??????d like for you to consider the ride type when rating.
-Please note that all lats, low or more forceful, are intentional and within the guidelines set by other Intamin roller coasters.
-Everything has been checked to ensure a safe ride. However, if you decide to tunnel test, please remember to use those of NL1.5 or before, and remember that riders can??????t touch what is below the track level.
-Breaking Point is designed to work best with NL 1.6 and improved friction. There may be some errors with the file when used with a version other than NL 1.6. Please, if you're not using 1.6, don't rate me down for those issues.
-This ride uses a few park pack objects, so please make sure you've downloaded the CS Park Pack.
-Be sure to ride with the default environment, ??????Breaking Point DCs221.??????

Because of the 4000 character limit, acknowledgements and some notes are featured in the track info.

Thank you, and enjoy! If you liked Breaking Point, be sure to check out my other NL custom coaster designs, found here: http://www.coastercrazy.com/track_exchang ... ubmit1.y=7

Please rate, as I always learn a lot from rates, and after months of work I love to see exactly what you think. Rest assured that your rate will help me bring you better rides in the future!

This was excellent. If I had something to say, it would be that I want that Ripple 3ds coaster made!

Tech: It was made with Elementary. Enough said.
A: Very well paced and it was great fun blitzing through the low corkscrew. However there was a lot of potential for a slightly longer track.
O: Very original launch and Intamin would probably never make this cause they're wusses.

Very impressive!

Wow! This was very good. I'll rate in 3 sections: building technique, adrenaline, and originality.

BT- This is one of the best build tracks I have ever seen. There were no visible jerks, pumps, bumps, etc. The layout was superb, and the tophat was really unique. You did a GREAT job on supports; they looked very realistic and complicated. The track was also shaped very well and all flowed very nicely.

A- This ride was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The combination of the elements, speed, and 3ds, made this ride what it was; great! I really enjoyed the unusual elements and the launched hill.

O- This was very original. The 3ds were great, which led to what I loved most about this ride; the realism. I felt like this could actually be built in real life and would be very enjoyable. The line of elements, 3ds, and environment were great!

Great Job overall!

WOW- Really I just have to say that this was just great. Amazing. The ride was so so so smooth and the 3ds were also just great. IMO you didnt need the 3ds but they just sealed the deal. I really enjoyed it and it was so new and heart-pumping.

Tech- It was so smooth. Even though the manouvers were really tight, it handled it like a beast. Very smmoth. Beautfil supports, and great G-Forces. Especially on the last hills.

Adr- It was so fast and that launch was just so so so amazing and new. It also incorperated some airtime for back seaters. Wow that first inversion was heart pounding. LOVED IT. Such a rush to ride.

O- Nothing like I have ever riden before!. Really all new things and normal things made anew. GREAT.

I loved this ride so much. New. Fast. Twisty. Great.

Good solid ride here.

T: very glass-smooth ride. Transitions were excellent, the ride flowed nicely, and everything was well done here except for one airhill that just kinda.. felt weird to me.. im not sure if it's only me or not, but i just feel like it was shaped odd, or something was up.. Supports were great along with everythng else as well.

A: Launch was incredible, the 3d's helped out a lot here, and the rides tophat, and everything here was nicely done, the heartline roll was sweet, and your track was very well done.

O: Loved the launch... i believe that i have seen one before, but it was still very excellently done, great job here once again, short and sweet really great intamin coaster. The only thing is, theres noothing incredibly new, nice tophat, the dive loop (ehh..)

ill give strait 9's, not my favorite coaster..

Maybe he's showing that the trains have only a lap bar and no OTSRs even though the layout includes wild inversions...

Perhaps a ride on Mr Freeze or a Premier LIM coaster after their mods would clear things up?

Hey... Um, Ive already talked with you about how I feel about the whole thing, but I'll still put my input.

Tech- Pretty good, I liked everything exept the awkward air hill after the turnaround. It was really shaped wierd, and then the leadout started without banking. Then near the bottom suddenly decided to bank. It just felt so unflowing. I dont know why people are so thrilled about this ride. I know you are a fantastic designer, and this ride is very good and yada yada. But some people are just seeing the name DCS and throwing off 10's like mad. DCS has some other rides that are MUCH more deservant of 10's easily people, But not this one. I'm going to rate 8.5 tech because even though this air hill is one problem, the ride is only so long... so problems taken up more percentage of the track.

A- Adrenaline was great, Lots of speed. Fast pacing. A little too fast through the dive loop and roll section, I got dizzy.

O- Well this is tough, is the launch ORIGINAL? yes. Do I like it? no. Should whether I like it or not affect my decision? I dont know. The launch was a cool idea, I liked the airtime, but it just felt awkward again. The whole feel of it is kinda slowed down by the track being bendy. From off the ride it looks really funky. I dont know what to say man. It's complicated. I'll go through the track after the launch:
-Tophat = Cool and original
-Dive loop = Not so much, pretty straight forward (not literally, though that too)
-Roll - kinda fast... I dont know how well it'd work in real life.
-Airtime hills = One has good air and feels nice, the other is weird.

I know what you were going for in a ride like this, short and sweet and realistic. It just didnt work with me. I felt if you are going to make it short and realistic, you could make it better. You only were presenting so little track to us, every second should've been spectacular. Some of your other rides give me tons of track AND all spectacularness, this was switched around in both ways.

Maybe next time, thanks for the ride though.

P.S - Nice 3ds work, props

Wow! I am speechless. This ride was crazy!
T: Everything was perfect! The track was smooth and exciting and the 3d's were amazing. The station was really nice and the souvenir shop was awesome. It was great how you put pictures of the ride in the store.
A: The entire ride was non-stop craziness. The launch was really fun- I would like to see Intamin come out with a similar launch. The tophat was sweet.
O: Extremely original coaster. Every single element in this coaster was unique and original. The launch was very different and was a great way to start out the ride.
To sum up, amazing coaster. All of your coasters are great. Anyone can see that you put alot of time and effort in each coaster you design. Great work!

Hey.. really nice ride, I love it, I will drop a rate later but i think you should get rid of some nooby rates that say abosolutely nothing at all about your ride and downrate you.

Technichal: Wow, great, no bad g's, I think the supports were great, and your track overall is just incredible. Your top hat blows me off my asss.

Adrenaline: Great Pacing, Sweet Launch, And most importantly great elements and inversions. And Also your Theming was superb.

Originality: For me, I hate the originality category, but if a ride was to be that of original. Your track definitely deserves the highest number you can get.

Overall: Awesome ride, Great 3ds/theming/your the greatest coaster builder to NoLimits.

Wow. This really is a spectacular ride, and it certainly deserves all the praise. The launch rocked, and the top hat is breath-taking to ride and really well bulit track-work wise. The following combination of dive loop straight into high speed barrel roll is also awesome (and perhaps better executed than mavericks), and then the pace is kept right through with good airtime.
I thought the supports and 3ds were great, the trees are cool and I really like the long grass beneath the turnaround. I noticed other nice details like the transfer track which is realistic.
I think coasters like this show a lot of dedication and skill, and I think Breaking Point illustrates another progression in design work from your previous rides which were already top notch.

EXTRAORDINARY!!!!

ONLY WORD THAT CAN EXPLAIN THIS RIDE

T:perfect supports, the layout was AMAZING!!!
And loved the zero-G lauch. Sounds like a once in a lifetime experience to me.

A:Great, it kept it speed and forces pulling the whole ride.

O: love the first element. That tophat-like element. I like the way it finishes its roll as it begins to start its decent.

Overall one of the better rides on the site.
I give it a 10. It deserves it. And by the way the 3Ds were pretty cool looking. And the environment went perfectly with the ride.

Well, as the time finally comes I can throw a decent rate, everything has been said.

DCs, you truly need to be credited as one of the most skilled designers in this entire community of sites. You have such great talent and ability I couldn't possibly fathom it. You WILL become one of the world's best designers in the future, I promise.

================Technical================

As though I could score you less than a ten, man. It was slippery glass smooth to perfection times ten! The supports were amazing. Very efficient and pretty looking. I congratulate you in making such a wonderful technical ride! And like I said, most everything has been acknowledged by the others.

================Adrenaline================

Just blew me AWAY! That first launch was so frickkkin awesome. Some of the best airtime you could witness right there. And then straight into a super-dizzying-excitifying twist up the hat. Super creative and wonderfully surprising/exhilerating. That dive loop inversion/first half of a Norgy Loop was very creative to have lying there in the design. I'm questing the roll, however. Maybe it would've caused uncomfortable rotating in the body? I don't know for sure, but it seems like the story of Maverick all over again. It was seriously the only question I had about the entire piece of work. I loved the airtime on those last few hills that lead back to the station area.

================Originality================

It just contains so much substance. So exciting, such a wonderfully original launch...Incredible forces, wonderful theming and 3D Object use! A great ride with unbelievable credibility. I have to add that I love the track section through the gift shop. Should give souvenir shoppers and funny little jolt with that train roarin' by. The great equation for a perfect Originality field score [:)] Bravo, man!

To this day you stand as one of the most skilled and amazing virtual designers I've ever witness! Keep 'em comin'!

Yes! Yes! Yes! It finally came out! And trust me, this thing is far better than your other coasters, even on the entire site.

Techincal: The launch was excellently done, with the floaters and everything. Most trackwork was very smooth, which I really wanted to see. The inversions were ingeniously built, the speeds incredible, and the overall layout spectacular. I probably would have like to have the entire launch with the 4-tube, but that is okay. I do not think that the supports will hold up the ride very well (especially the ones after the fast zero-g roll). Maybe the brake run could last a little longer, because there were still like 10 feet left when the transport kicked in. Other than those, absolutely perfect. 10 (Hint to WWS; make the scores by .1 or by .25, to get accurate ratings.)

Adrenaline: The ride kept all the way through, and was great. Maybe the first inversion could be a little more spread out and the launch speed faster, because it slowed down a little much for an Intamin launched (as well as all of the other inversions). Otherwise, perfect. 10

Originality: The originality was a little low; nothing I have not seen before (not the zero-g roll). The supports, again, should have held up better. 9.5

Extras: The 3ds were excellent, and added a great overall thrill to the ride. +.5 Originality

All i can say is WOW.

T:Trackwork was excellent along with the supports. Very smooth, did have a yellow spike at 5.0 g's but i can handle it.

A:I didnt know if i wanted to put a 9.5 or a 10 here just because i didnt find it to heart pumping after the launch and the tophat. The heartline roll was also pretty cool so ill give it a 10.

O:Very original. Ive never thought a launch like that could be done. The Tophat is one of the most amazing elements ive ever seen, besides the twisted horseshoe roll. Definently has Intamin written all over it.

Only thing about this ride that i dont like a lot are the 3d's. I hate coasters with tons of 3d's that arent really necessary. For example the little ripple coaster and the burger stands and stuff, i know its cool to have but it just kills my comp.(I dont have that great of a computer to begin with.) Im not going to take points off for that tho, its just my opinion.

Great coaster, keep up the good work.

Tech work was perfect. Couldn't see a thing wrong with the track.

Originality, what impressed me here is the souvenir shop where you could see the train through the window of the shop. That would be so cool to see in real life. That would sell Breaking Point memorabilia even if I didn't ride the thing. And of course the twisting upward spiral after the first dip was awesome. I liked the way you kept the lateral G forces near 0 going through those twists and turns.

Adrenaline was very high because your track felt like a real roller coaster track. It just flowed smoothly from one element to another.

I would liked to have seen a couple more hills at the end or an underground curving tunnel like The Voyage just before the brake run.

Great ride!

I really enjoyed this ride, but it has to be said that i didnt enjoy it as much as i did Aiolos. But then again that is probably still my favourite ride on nolimits.

tech: Pretty perfect technically not much i can really mention. Smooth, pump free, erm, supports were great. Yeah, blah blah blah, we can just skip this bit.

Adren: This was the section i didnt like so much. The ride was great, but adrenaline wise it was nothing spectacular. The forces were high, great airtime, great positives, most things you can ask for in a coaster. It just didnt seem as out of control as i would like though, the only part that did was the zero G into the turn, and that was because of the enormous speed it was taken at. I must say i thought the ride got better after the dive loop up until the brakes. I liked the low zero G, the ground hugging turn and the run of airtime hills. Simple, yet really fun and it was pulled off spectacularly. Anyway i still really liked it.

orig: Really original launch and semi original tophat. The rest of the layout was more realistic, very Storm runner, which was a good thing. I dont like a ride to go WAY OFF and be too orignal because then i think it lacks realism and it just doesnt interest me as much. To me, you hit the balance right here. An original start to make it stand out from the crowd, the tophat with its slight twist was interesting, yet not too out there, and the layout after was great, but not really that original. Because of this you made a realistic ride that i could imagine being built, that still kept me interested because of some unique features. Awesome.

I must mention the 3ds aswell. I thought they were pretty good. I love looking at 3d work, it makes me way more interested in a track. Some say you shouldnt mark up for 3ds, but i always do, you can really see the effort that has gone in to making an overall experience, rather than just a ride. Always a good thing. I wasnt too keen on a couple of the textures on th station, but thats just personal preference.

Overall really great ride.

I don't know if i have high expectations of you, but I thought it was going to wow me more, nevertheless:

BT: There is not much to say here as it is practically perfect. Combing the track for flaws is very difficult. Supports were excellent as usual. G forces were fine as well.

The Launch: I had two main thoughts about it.
- I was very impressed with the way in that it was constructed to produce the floater airtime mixed with the acceleration and it would definitely be fun to ride.
- My other thought was that although it would be fun to ride in real life, i did not like it in the simulator. Also i doubt that this launch would give a rider a sensation any different than a launch then a floater hill but the launch doesn't actually continue over the crest of the hill. If you are unsure what I mean by this just ask me.

A: For me this was the lowest area because although in places was intense in others it was pretty standard intensity. I presume the reason it drags itself slowly over the top hat is because of airtime? I am really liking the high speed roll though and the dive loop.

O: Like all rollercoasters you have to get inspiration from somewhere and I think you did very well in selecting a good element order. The top hat was well done although it reminded me slightly of Kamikaze by Drummerkid. The very steep drop down the top hat was brilliant. The rest of the ride apart from the speed roll was pretty standard element-wise so the points for the originality are due to the launch and the top hat.

This was an excellent ride, but it wasn't my favourite. Most people's comments will be outrageously positive, i hope mine don't seem negative in amongst all that. I do think your months of work is worth it, and the launch was a very good concept.

I was so excited for this ride, that I waked up early this morning (8.35 a.m.Italy)
And I'm proud to tell you that this is an amazing coaster!

T:I'm not a master here and you know that it's near perfection.Smoothness is incredible, supports are clean and precise...I feel stupid adding more comments!!!

A:Beginning is simply spectacular. The forces produced with that "hill" launch are simply frightening!!!The vertical roll of the tophat is disorienting, exiciting corkscrew and awesome final airtime hills.
Not too long, not too short;the right length to scream all the time!

O:You always pay great attention on 3ds and you always create new designs!
But my 10 is completely dedicated to your layout:as I already said, your launch and tophat are unique.
I really appreciated the combination of elements and, above all, final surprising airtime was a great touch.

Thanx for this ride!
