I read that the steel tunnels are more accurate for testing since wooden tunnels would enclose the catwalks and railings too.
As for the picture, if they're on the same block, then I'm pretty sure it still passes.

Run it with out the tunnels, but with the cat walks. If the hand rails form one, your ok. If one goes beyond the other, its fail.
