Ethernet switch vs. ethernet splitter

Hi all,
Well currently I'm in college and I have a predicament. My room has three xboxs and we only have two ethernet jacks. I was wondering if a unmanaged switcher would be better than a cheap splitter. If anyone is "tech-savy" and can help me i'd greatly appreciate it.

What kind of router do you have?

3 Xboxes? Thats cool, I'm only surrounded by PS3 guys. :/

We dont have a router, wireless isn't an option. Every xbox needs to be "hard" wired in. I was just wondering if they work the same or not.

You need a router before you can use a switch. Without the router, you have no network.
