the technology didnt, but rollercoasters are certainly a good example of their use.

To answer your question, no. They were not originated on roller coasters.

They did not, but LSM's originated on coasters and have further gone to other uses. They are now used on air-craft carriers to launch the plane.

Yea the new class is going to be the first to have the electromagnetic launch systems.

Currently though the systems are steam powered, which is actually more similar to TTD or anyother hydraulic launcher.

I was just thinking, A really good method to put on Carriers would be compressed air, similar to what S&S is doing. It would be very efficient. But then again, many factors could go wrong (example Ring Racer).

I've seen Powder Keg shut down more then any other ride at SDC, and it's because of the launch. The problems with RR's launch delaying it 2 years... Yeah I don't think they're very reliable, and the Navy sure doesn't want to deal with it. I'm sure the EMALS will work great, using less energy, less stress on aircraft, and the many other advantages it will bring.
