As it is, many rides get few to no rates. I think it might be a good idea to allow people to effortlessly click a circle, like from 0.5 to 10, to rate a ride, yet still have the option to comment. And a comment will have the option to hide or show the rating (unless there is none). It'd make awards easier to decide on, and get more rides rated, although it might be annoying to implement. Could still be worth it.

Eh, that's pretty much what we have now, just with drag down's instead of what sounds like a "bubble" idea. Also, if you have the option to comment or not comment, then how will you be able to justify your rate? If you have that sorta system then tracks will never be rated where they should be because someone could just throw random numbers in there and no one, even mods won't be able to tell if it's a accurate rate if they have nothing to put the numbers with.

Rating rides without comments? That is like giving a speech and not having to prove any of your facts. Hey, I've got an idea ... why not just give you the source code to the site? That way, you can make changes that you would like and we can all just live with it. Yeah, that's a good idea. Slap, make that happen immediately.

Goten, have you no concept of what a ride exchange and rating system is? Come on man, you certainly are living up to your title these days. Do yourself a favor and think before you post next time, you have definitely earned the double eye-roll for this idea.

Ragan, I have no signature. :P

And I think you're all missing the point of my idea. A few weird ratings wouldn't matter, it'd be everybody just clicking a number, and then the AVERAGE and number of rates showing up. Maybe it could be separate or something, but that'd allow some more coasters to at least get numbers, and it could help people have a chance to be in the weekly awards.

And members could be forced to do this for a large amount of rides they download after the point it's added, to enforce that people actually get ratings.

EDIT: Image

EDIT2: Another idea for the site, much easier, is to make all those lines between post and signature a different color. I can almost never see them.

But the fact is that your method is encouraging people to make ratings with no justification behind them, and that can never be good. It's not worth it just so a couple of tracks can get some numbers, which would mean nothing without any descriptions backing them up.

Goten, you inability to see what everyone else is saying about rating only enforces your n00bility here.

However, this deserves special recognition because, well, you are really showing your stupidity now:

and then the AVERAGE and number of rates showing up.
That is called an average, which is what happens now when people rate properly. Duh.

Open your eyes and comprehend, and hopefully you can draw the conclusion yourself. If you are unable or unwilling to see what the answer is to your suggestion, that is your problem - but I will explain it plainly for you. Rating without commenting will never happen as long as their are actual experienced designers here, so give it up.

As far as the color of the lines between posts -- quit mixing topics. This thread is about your rating idea, and it has been shot down thoroughly. AS far as the site design, it is not your site, and the colors work fine. Get glasses or a better pair of eyes and quit mixing topics.

Why not just rate more coasters? Wouldn't that give more builders a chance at the weekly awards?

look at it this way. Tracks of any actual worth do get noticed, and they get the rates. Doing this will not make the tracks more competitive. If you want tracks to be more competitive, then you should rate the crappy tracks and tell them what they did wrong, and give suggestions how to fix it. If they can bring themselves up to a more competive level, then there will be more competition. So the competitiveness has nothing to do with how many tracks are being rated, but rather how many tracks of a certain level of quality there are.

Yeah, that's basically what I meant to say.[;)]
