Ugh, i hate it when people take all the mainstream bullsh!t as rap, hip-hop, or any other sub genre. ITS MAINSTREAM!!!! Anything youve seen on MTV, Vh1, or anything else, for the most part, isnt music. Theres no message behind it other than "i acquire multiple STDs by the week, have more money than sense, and i buy illegal guns to act tough". Even most enthusiasts dont consider mainstream to be legitimate anymore. Its almost as if the mainstream music has gotten so bad, its formed its own category.
Also, R&B is what todays rap got its roots from. Its a different genre within it's self, while both hip-hop and r&b have influences within each other.
