Transfer mode

How can I use the transfer mode in SM and what means "Change track"?

Wait till all the trains are stopped, press X to enter tranfer mode and when the train is on the segment press 1,2,3,4 or so on. I think that should work but if not, look in your help guide and see if it has anything.
