It went down in the Hudson river and there's a lot of ferries around it. Report has it that it had a bird strike shortly after take off from La Guardia airport. From the looks of it, the plane is intact and floating in the water. Looks like there is people floating around in the water, alive [:)]

I don't understand how a flock of birds can cause a plane of that size to crash. Airbus planes are huge.

If they get sucked into the jet engine, it chokes it. This is why a lot of airports have hired falconers, to chase the birds away from planes taking off. In this case, birds got sucked into both engines, disabling the engines. And since it was still barely taking off, it didn't have the speed to glide anywhere. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_strike

There are birds everywhere though, I think that planes should definitely come up with some protective covering for the engines so these type of misfortunes don't continue to happen. This time they lucked out and landed in the Hudson, next time it happens mother nature may not be so kind.

You can't have a covering for the engine intake. Even if there was a screen, debris could stick to it and reduce engine performance.

Well I'm pretty sure some aerospace geniuses could invent something

well, i think that since there's more birds than planes birds should have to wear a proctective covering that keeps them from flying around so that they dont get in the way of the airplanes..
